Madoff Cutting a Deal?
Could Bernie Madoff be looking to plead out and avoid a trial? That’s what The New York Times thinks is behind Monday’s court order that says Madoff’s attorney is “engaging in discussions concerning a possible disposition of this case.” “He’s trying to cut a deal,” an attorney unconnected with the case tells The Times. “The only other possible ‘disposition’ that could be negotiated would be for the government to drop the whole case—and that’s not going to happen.” A judge Monday declined prosecutors’ request to revoke Madoff’s bail. Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reports on efforts to find out how a Spanish bank, Banco Santander, lost $3.1 billion worth of clients’ money in Madoff’s alleged schemes.

Madoff is under house arrest in a city where Black and Latino men are killed by police and questions are asked later. Men like Diallo, Dorismond, and Bell. Quality of life my ass. If I jumped the turnstile today, I'd be under house arrest at Rikers.
Are these black and latino men selected at random for execution, or is some act of criminality involved?
Give him 2 years off his sentence for every billion he gives back. Otherwise, He's got nothing coming !!!!!!!!

This is as low as someone can go. Stealing from religious groups of all sects, widows, the elderly while eating at 5 star restaurants. It clearly shows the legal system is class biased. The world will not change unless this issue will be addressed/
a deal? a deal???!!! imprisonment is not enough for this guy. he must face trial, his process must be public and visible. i say he must be publicly humiliated. there won't be justice otherwise.
how blatant a failure of justice can we make this? First he gets away with continued theft while out on bail, and now this? Who is this guy going to have to kill with his bare hands before the authorities actually consider sending this clown to prison?
I suspect he had already made deals with somebody, or why did he get away with this for so long without detection.
Based on the hundreds of nasty comments on the "bag lady papers" blog, the jealousy between classes possibly allowed this to continue too.
There are even comments comparing a supposedly risk managed fund with a lottery, so I think there might be a lot of ignorance related to what Madoff really did, how awful it really was to allegedly use investors funds to allegedly payoff other investors while being led to believe the money was being invested in a very well managed investment, and who the actual victims really are.
Lots of people are going to be afraid to invest now, people are not going to know the difference between a well managed investment fund and a lottery, and capital could be a lot harder to raise.
I wish we didn't have to keep looking at that horrible smirk on his face.
That Madoff will ultimately plead guilty is so obvious it isn't worth reporting.
There is no issue to take to trial; the paper trail alone will make it open and shut. At 70, with the maximum sentence for even a single count of securities fraud at 20 years, there is no point negotiating a sentence. The only things to negotiate are asset forfeitures/fines and trying to get his family members off the hook (both criminally and financially).
As for exposing facts at trial, I expect that he will be required to "allocute"--that is, to explain in detail the fraud he committed--when he pleads guilty.
Madoff stole not only from the rich but from working people and the poor. The money is gone and the sooner everyone understands that the better. He is a dishonest and dishonorable man and he will never fully explain where the money is. Any reeducation in time in his sentencing would be immoral. I wonder who is paying off the judge.
I really don't want to spend tax dollars to put & keep him in jail. The cost of it all including appeals will be huge & I simply don't want to pay. First the judge should charge him/family for everything related including the State costs. Next if he wants to stay in his condo then he needs to pay the State say a few million a month. Next he should be sentenced to say 25 years & that can be reduced based on the percentage of the actual amount lost by investors. 5o billion gets him set free 25 billion gets him just 12 1/2 years. Oh, lets not forget he needs to tell the Fed's "HOW" he managed to pull this off. Lastly he can get more time off if he tell's the court who he paid off in the SEC to get away with it & he needs to go to court against that person. Bottom line in this sad chapter in human nature is simple, he is guilty but is not any more guilty then the Banks, investment houses, brokers & headge fund managers & so on. They took a hundred times the 50 billion & more. They cost tens of thousands of people out of homes & jobs. If we are looking for guilt out in the world of Wall Street then let's not stop at Madoff, hell he is small change compared to the funds that took hundreds of billions in oil profits out of our pockets. He is small change compared to what Bush cost our country in not only mopney but in the lives of people all over the world. If you are looking for guilt then lets get them all including the whole Bush admin. & start by putting them all in jail & then continue on to Wall Street... That would be justice, real justice...
Thank you.
