Madoff to Stay Out on Bail
A federal judge in New York City ruled today that Ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff—who allegedly fleeced $50 billion from his firm's clients—can remain out on bail. Prosecutors had sought to put him in jail now because they claimed he tried to dispose of assets, a violation of bail. Madoff is currently under house arrest in a penthouse apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side under the protection of private security guards.

They need to deny him access to phone and internet, or else he'll have no trouble at all continuing to fleece us all.
what do you have to do in this country to get justice for the fleeced. ok so I know that they got took mainly becaues of their greed but the law is the law when the law catchs you ,you go to jail you do not pass go and you do not get $200 bucks
How can the justice department allow Madoff to post bail from assets that are clearly afforded on Madoff's fortune? He didn't earn the money to buy those residences. He stole the money. Letting him post bail on the value of his residences is like letting a bank robber post bail using the bag of loot that was stolen from the bank.
Obviously he has some friends in high places. Money has changed hands, or someone is being blackmailed.
Or perhaps they are watching him operate in his relative freedom to see if they can follow him to the money. Giving him enough rope to hang himself. Except this guy is smart. And pretty well-connected.
He must have kept a few people happy or he'd be dead already.
steal 50 dollars get a year in jail, steal 50 billion, you own the judge
You have to steal a lot of money to get that kind of special treatment. The corruption in this reeks.
When the government busts drug dealers, their property and assets are confiscated. And, they left OJ in the jail for a year while he was on trial. My point is, Madoff should be treated the same way.
Madoff mailed out $lm in jewelry, wrote checks for $135m to friends and family from his penthouse, and the judge allows him to stay in the penthouse to continue this charade. What am i missing here?
Probably not so much 'friends' in high places as 'cohorts'.
The powers-that-be must be shakin in their boots that he keeps quiet.
Thank you.
