Meet Sarah Palin's Ghostwriter

Sarah Palin Lynn Vincent
AP Photo

But did she really nail Palin? Lynn Vincent took leave from her post at the Christian publication World Magazine, where she'd worked for a decade, to be ghostwriter for Sarah Palin's book, Going Rogue: An American Life, due out in November. But Vincent can't talk about it—she signed a non-disclosure agreement. Vincent retired from the Navy as an air traffic controller in 1991 and settled in San Deigo. Since then, she has written books about a Christian pop singer, a former terrorist, and an Army general, but her most successful work was an inspirational book about a rich art dealer who befriended a homeless man. Same Kind of Different as Me sold more than half a million copies and spent 75 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list—prompting Mark Clayman, executive producer of the sappy American Dream-themed The Pursuit of Happyness—to pick up the movie rights.

Typical elitist snobs here as usual. So now Palin has a 'Ghost Writer' and not an editor. Too funny. So now that her book is likely going to hit #1 immediately...the same media snobs who said she was finished...now will tell us she didn't write her book. Insanity to be so afraid of a 'citizen politico' as Palin. Maybe the people of the nation know much more than the mavens who inhabit Manhattan.

I'm a liberal, and I never said she was finished. I knew she was going to have a super successful book. There are enough crazies and enough curios people to make it a hit. She needed someone else to write it so it didn't completely suck though. It's funny because she bills herself as a maverick and a non-washington type who is a new kind of politician, but then gets a ghost-writer. Nothing "citizen politico" about that. Same old, same old.

Well, enough of the people of this nation did know enough to keep this proud ignoramous out of federal office. But, maybe she could now win us over after publication by appearing with some intelligent interviewer (perhaps 60 Minutes?) and answering questions about "her" book. Of course, we would first give her a few weeks to read the book to become familiar with its contents.

Populism vs. elitism, eh Jpelhamin? Well I call BS. Here you have a woman who claims to have insight into how the world should work....and she can't even write her own book. If that's elitism, well, I guess I'll just vote for The Undertaker or The Big Show for President. According to your idiotic view of the world, POTUS should be a belt you win in WWF. Moron.

Just so YOU are clear. Lynn Vincent lists herself as "co-author" on Palin's book. (See Wikipedia.) That's more than ghost writer and even more than editor. The press release announcing the early release of this "memoir" mentions that in addition to Vincent, editors at H-C also worked on it. That's code for their lawyers looked at it too. With so much animosity about to be flung at her "haters", Palin's book would have to be scrutinized thoroughly by the publisher to prevent lawsuits. That's what happens when a "Christian" wingnut dictates a word-salad to people charged with translating into English.

Only elitist snobs can AFFORD to hire a ghostwriter, not the ordinary people working at the car wash. Oh more likely, Rupert Murdoch hired the ghostwriter and helped "edit" the book.

Did anybody ever really believe that Sarah Palin actually wrote a book? You just KNOW that she didn't. She couldn't.

It's not a sin, it's just not much of an event, whether it's Palin or anyone else. If the thoughts and words are not your own, then the account offers little insight into the mind or the character. What use is it to anyone who wants to learn something? Any person should be embarrassed to participate in such a charade.

Austerlitz - I think it would depend on how many lies she wrote on behalf of Palin that went into the book, like lying about being pregnant during the Alaskan gubernatorial election, lying about not knowing Bristol (the daughter) was having sex, lying about why the son went into the military, lying about the husband's separatist politics, etc.

Bill and Hillary are bright, articulate people and, if they did not personally type their books, at the very least dictated them.

SP is such easy prey.

Every time she opens her mouth, it's another political or social train wreck
that needs mending. Palin is merely a genome oddity that functions merely
as cannon fodder for comedians and critical analysts. There's really not much
to debate here.

What little redeeming value could be culled from her "personal accounts" will
quickly dissolve into assorted water cooler discussion nuggets - all but forgotten.

Night/TeamSarah, you have too much time on your hands, but I'll humor you and agree that Palin will sell 1.5MM copies. There ARE that many wingnuts in the country, especially since this is being pitched as a "memoir" (i.e. reality filtered through the cheesecloth of HER memory) of a conservative Christian. The Bible Belt will be eating it up. However, don't look to liberals and moderates to buy herr book. We'll wait for the reviews, which will supply LOL moments and lots for Tina Fey.

And since we're talking about books, keep an eye out for the upcoming exposes by Geoffrey Dunn and Joe McGinniss who have already written extensively on Palin. Those fact-filled books with lots of interviews of people who know her will make a great postscript to her lies. That's when Palin will learn that she didn't get the last laught, just big bucks for milking a credulous "base" like you.

Something odd.

Interested in how they would frame the 'Going Rogue' meme, I visited nearly a dozen conservative sites, WorldNet, PJ Media, TownHall, Freepers, etc and NOT ONE had any mention of the book! Even PJ Media had taken down the PalinTracker it had just put up a couple of weeks ago.

Only Malkin, and she just had a two line blurb.

So, what is the politics happening here? and again, reading though the comments on this site and tasting the bitter devisivness that SP seems to front and forment, I can only wonder, WHO BENEFITS?

Who benefits as we citizens of this wonderful country are split apart by the noise and misdirection (on all sides) that has taken the place of journalism? How can we come together in the promise of our founding fathers and the Obama election that now seems so lost?

Thoughtful remarks, anyone?

If every voter were half as well-informed as most posters on TDB, this country would have frequent and healthy debates about the critical issues facing this country. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The fault lies on the part of the voters themselves.

Do we at times fall short in striving to disagree without being disagreeable and being able to agree to disagree? Yes.

That said, there are no sacred cows in this country. Hypocrites, liars, scoundrels, and all other political beasts on both sides of the aisle need to be called out for what they are. This unrestrained "freedom of speech" is what country was built on and is what makes America unlike any other country in the world.

So, for Sarah Palin, who advertised herself as a Washington outsider, a "regular" person, and championed "Joe the Plumber" for his alleged everyman qualities, it's the height of hypocrisy for her to not have written her own book and she is being taken to task for that.

Thank you Spotted. I was beginning to feel I'd 'killed the buzz'.

I appreciate your analysis and am sorry it is now so close to my bedtime that I cannot respond as thoughtfully as I might.

In being fairly new to commenting at this site and a few others, I keep looking for the healthy debate you advocate, especially from the 'right' as I am ignorant of many of the underlying premises upon which they seem to base their arguments. I have made use of the 'Blogopticon' that Vanity Fair has up to access a range of sites and still am left puzzled.

Let me know if you have any suggestions. It seems TDB may not be the best location for lengthy discourse.

Did anyone really think that Sarah Palin was 'furiously writing' anything this summer, let alone a book?
Ghost writers are not the same as editors. Fitzgerald and Hemingway had an editor-Max Perkins at Scribner's-they did NOT need a ghost writer. Neither did Barack Obama who was a law student at the time he wrote his first book.
Sarah Palin needs a platoon of ghost writers and editors-what a task for this one poor lone ghost writer.
