Michelle Obama to Mentor Teens

Forget Girl Scouts. What if your afterschool activity was to hang out at the White House? In another first lady first, Michelle Obama is launching a mentorship program that pairs local high-school girls with successful female leaders, including the first lady herself. The initiative’s inaugural round of students will include 20 Washington-area sophomores and juniors and feature discussions revolving around college, careers, and motherhood. Several members of Obama’s female staff will join her as mentors, and Monday’s launch will include a visit to the mentors’ offices and a group dinner. The program was developed from a March event at the White House, when the students spent time with Obama, Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow, Mae Jamison, and other women. The first round of students was selected by local high schools, the Girl Scouts, and Gold Star families.

Yes, she can explain how women live and are respected in the socialist countries she admires.

Mean America, yes reality bites.

What a smart idea! Young girls need mentors and Mrs. Obama is wise to start promoting this idea. Perhaps schools could encourage this type of support. There are a lot of retirees looking for things to do!

It's your right to keep your girls ignorant if you chose to but there are myriad things about Michelle Obama that are great. For one, she is First Lady and you're not.

Ok! I swear the hate that brews is amazing if not disturbing. Here is our FLOTUS leading by example and still there are those who would detract. Quite pathetic really. I feel sorry for NYers kids for having such an idiot as a parent.

Too bad for your girls - IF they were to be chosen for the program, they'd likely be missing out on a great experience. Hopefully your hatred of the current President and First Lady won't rub off on your daughters and they'll be better than you - less nasty, mean-spirited and hateful. You must be so proud of yourself....

Could you get one of them to type your posts for you from now on? This mentor program is aimed at high-school students so presumably they'll have learned the basics of written communication by now.

"rhonda"; I don't know if they issued this in Braille or not, but it wasn't at all difficult to find. Illinois State Bar Association, Jan. 2009; ... "WHEREAS, the new president will take up residence in the historic White House with another Illinois attorney, his wife Michelle Robinson Obama; and ......."

Boy you are piece of work, NewyorkerR. But what would one expect from someone who said in a post a couple of days ago that Sarah Loser Palin is someone your daughters can look up to.

It must be the reincarnation of the jackass that was dabeall - a foul-mouthed idiot that could only spew talking points and harp on physical characteristics, just like above; nothing of substance but over and over with the personal attacks.

Guess s/he is jealous of something - usually it's massive insecurity about their own physical shortcomings that causes jackasses like this to strike out against others. A real mental midget, I'd say.

she will be teaching hula hoop and jump rope! She will be giving fashion tips on how to wear belts and bows. tips on etiquette, don't mug the Queen and don't make ugly faces when your side by side with the First Lady of France!

Golly Rhonda...that must be what you think "successful female leaders" think are the attributes of achievers?
You may not be wrong...exercise, stay fit, have some fun, dress clean and neat, choose politeness and patience, be yourself, recognize your self-worth, and give to others so that they too might achieve.
