Scuffles

Mike Tyson's Airport Brawl

CS - Tyson
Carlo Allegri / AP Photo

Photographer Tony Echevarria, 50, says that heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson struck him once at the Los Angeles airport in a scuffle that ended with both men being booked and released on suspicion of misdemeanor battery Wednesday. Echevarria went down after the strike, and a hospital treated him for a cut to the forehead. Tyson alleged through a spokeswoman that the photographer behaved aggressively and attacked him while he was traveling with his wife and 10-month-old child. His spokeswoman said Tyson "acted in self defense as a father protecting his child." Some eyewitness accounts back each of the versions. Both men have said they intend to press charges of misdemeanor battery against each other.

Whilst you can empathise with Tyson over the aggressive and intrusive techniques used by paparazzi these days, with no regard for privacy, he really needs to get some anger management training.

Of course, any fool photographer who gets within striking range of a pugilist should expect an unusual and swift reaction.

Tyson probably needs alot of grief counseling over losing a daughter who got strangled to death by the cord of a treadmill -- imo

He might need some anger management training, his reaction was wrong, but I think he has the right to protect his privacy.

How to deal with this?

One shouldn't insult the intelligence of Sasquatch.
But good point.

While I'm no fan of Mike Tyson, I always find it satisfying whenever some paparazzi gets decked by the target he's been harrassing.

BTW: Tyson's left hook must have lost some steam if the paparazzi walked away from this incident.

The inside twitter is that Tyson began to apologize for biting Holyfield's ear, and the pizzarazzi fainted.

Memo to the cyberazzi--you want to pick a fight, pick a soft movie star, not an ex-con, former heavy weight champion with tattoos on his face.

I expect to see both of them on pay for view shortly. The agents are already on the phone.

You are a human being in a public place.
You're a celebrity in a public place.
You have no right to privacy.
Especially if you have a history of rape and violence to intimidate and get what you want.

I thought he served time for those offences. If so then he owes society nothing and in particular he owes no reporter anything at all. Good for Mike, it would have been nice to see that reporter hit the deck.

The paparazzi are WAAAY out of line in this nation..they will do ANYTHING to get a photo from a celeb.. even at the risk to provoke a FIGHT..how unintelligent and STUPID is that?

..as far as each other to file battery against each other.. I'm certain the video tape will TELL who was the aggressive one..and I doubt if it was Tyson... he has a FAMILY to protect from these imbeciles..

...if a celeb tell you to stay away from his FAMILY ..don't be an idiot AZZHOLE and supercede with your shelfish ways as a paparazzi ...you MIGHT get your BUTT KICKED.. and if that happens..do you really have to ask yourshelf was it worth it?

@ keepakeeper43..

..and the BOTH went to jail--didn't they keepakeeper43.. and were released weren't they..it will be interesting if they go to court and the video tape is presented ..if it gets that far .. if the aggressor is SMART and not stupid.. will settle..as an admission of guilt documented..

Again Mike Tyson did not go to the Airport to pick a fight with that guy. On the other hand the reporter did go to the airport to assault Mike Tyson. He deserved everything he got. But for sure mike is losing his touch, only hit him once. Was a time the guy would have got hit a couple more on the way down.

Why does the fictional media and the supposedly educated 'news' media perpetuate this myth that citizens have the right or choice or option to 'press charges?' It's a falsehood a lie and a disservice to the advancement of Constititutional/civic knowledge. Only the State or it's representatives law enforcement officers and prosecutors have the ability to file or press charges (ever). The citizen has no choice in the matter.
