NASA to Bomb Moon

It's exploring the moon the American way: with bombs. Today NASA is expected to launch a mission to bomb a crater near the moon's south pole, Scientific American reports. The aim of the mission is to figure out if there is water below the surface of the moon. Scientists will examine the debris kicked up by the explosion for water ice or vapor. The explosion will kick debris 6 miles into the moon's atmosphere, making it visible from Earth. If, as Scientific American put it, ice is "trapped in crater shadows near the south pole which never receives any sunlight," the resulting water could serve as the basis for a manned moon base.

What happen to the moon exploration thats supposed to happen.I don't know about this seems dangerous But its NaSa awhile back they shot a bomb at a meteor that was made of ice.And not long after that I saw a report of a block of ice that went thru a house nobody put the two together but i did the where no plane's flying over the house the FAA confirmed and everybody was mistified of where it came from nobody realized that NaSa had shot that meteor of ice days or weeks before.

OK..lets break this down:
1. NASA is going to create an explosion on the moon large enough to be visible from earth. Must be great for the atmoshpere.
2. They HOPE to find water which is needed for a manned moon base. Umm...any thoughts on oxygen or is that the next round of explosions? Perhaps you can contract North Korea to nuke it for us? Aleast it would kill two birds with one stone.
3. Earth to NASA - Americans are facing tremendous debt in this economy and you want to build Space Camp on the moon? Nice.

Space exploration is intimately connected with what it is to be human. To learn about explore that which is new and yet undiscovered.

There will always be bad economies.

By blowing things up...wow thats human as it gets.

And, this isn't just a bad economy, it is a disaster! Right now Americans are having a hard time making ends meet. To boldly go where no man has gone before (or blown up) needs to be put on hold. Tell NASA to cut their budget.

Cool... Do you know of a better way to test space bombs for asteroids? Maybe we need NASA minds trying to solve our economic woes too.

Where is SlaveRevolt when we need him?

This is a perfect example of why NASA's wasteful ways need to be curtailed.

We're like fire ants. Ever marching forth looking for new habitats because we're destroying the one we have.

I just ran some calculations, with the right bomb the moon's orbit can be changed.

This will cause a "moon landing" near Pyongyang.

Houston, we have a problem.

But it does make a great headline.

Didn't ABC put out a crappy TV-movie about the moon exploding and what happens afterwards? Did NASA get their plan from there? Wouldn't it be cheaper to fly a Wiccan up there who could walk around with one of those water rods? Do we really need to bomb the moon?!

"the resulting water could serve as the basis for a manned moon base."

And building a moon base is something that should even be considered as a POSSIBLE option because........?
