No Swine-Flu Shot at Gitmo

The good news: There’s been an increase in the number of swine-flu vaccines available. The bad news: The increase is no match for the fast-spreading disease. “We are seeing a steady increase in the availability of the vaccine, but not as quickly as we’d like it to be,” the CDC’s director says. H1N1 has already caused 1,000 deaths in the U.S. and infected 5 million total, and the government has now received 31.8 million doses of the vaccine for the new breed of flu. The scarcity of the shot led to raised eyebrows (and fists) over reports that Guantanamo detainees would be vaccinated, but the White House is now denying the claims. “There is no vaccine in Guantanamo and there’s no vaccine on the way to Guantanamo,” spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

First the White House promises to give the Gitmo detainees the vaccine when the rest of the country can't get it, and then the White house flip flops and tries to act tough by denying the vaccine to the prisoners.

Whats next? Will obama deny the detainees kleenex when they catch the flu?

The Gitmo detainees have yet to be tried in a court of law so they should be presumed innocent until tried. That being said, they should not receive preference over American citizens in receiving a flu shot. They should only receive a flu shot after all Americans have received theirs.

The Gitmo detainees are POWs, not convicts. They weren't arrested by police--they were captured by US military forces.

As POW is defined, your right plant. The POW concept does not differentiate between military or non military detainees...Then why doesnt the military classify them as POW's?

As an aside, there is a news story out tonight that shows that people over the age of 50 are susceptible to the Swine Flu after all. This comes after the CDC and the various state departments of public health have been telling us since early on (about 8 months) that the population over the age of 24 would not need vaccination unless there were other health concerns. Makes you want to rethink that whole public option and senior death panel thing doesn't it?

More good news: If the reports on how rapidly the virus is spreading and about vaccine scarcity are true, by the time most people have access to the vaccine, they will have had the H1N1 virus, recovered and developed immunity to it naturally.

They will be fine as the whole swine flu story is a pumped up hoax created by the pharmaceutical companies and government to make money. Then, when all the paranoids get their shots, both will credit their remarkable vaccine for it's success when in reality there never was an epidemic. They will not jimmy jones me.

I hope people are using this as a looking glass for health care assassination... the government is not competent enough to run a check.

The Geneva Convention comes to mind, as a "civilized" society, we shouldn't be discussing something so basic and elementary. Without question, these prisoners should receive the vaccines, if only because they are human beings first, and second, our guards are in constant contact with them. I guess none of the ridiculous, politically correct, whinos thought of that before giving their illogical comments!!!!

I was thinking its made from a pig so how will that work out for them? or would it be considered torture. injecting a pork product into them will make them believe no 187 virgins when they blow themselves up. it might be the best cure for suicide killers. i say shot them up fast as you can then tell them it comes from pork.
