Obama Blocks Cheney Docs
The Obama administration will protect a court filing that reveals conversations Dick Cheney had with top officials over the Bush administration's response to "Plamegate." The information, derived from interviews between Cheney and special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, was kept private during the Bush administration, and now the Obama administration has agreed that it should not be disclosed out of fears that it will discourage future public officials from holding similar interviews. But the document could shed more light on Cheney's role in the Valerie Plame case, in which the CIA spy was outed in the press, setting off a scandal. The document is said to reveal conversations between Cheney and top officials about Bush's mention of uranium in a speech on Iraq and conversations between Cheney and Scooter Libby, who was convicted of obstruction of justice over the Plame case only to have his sentence commuted by the president. As for Plame, Assistant Attorney General David Barron said Cheney discussed "the appropriate response to media inquiries about the source of the disclosure."

What's he afraid of? Something there he might not want us to know? I can't wait for 2012.

2012 Palin/Bachman
JDK-JDK
Wouldn't that be the DREAM ticket?
That would mean the TOTAL elimination of the Republican Party.
zerbit
JDK-JDK, well said! They were dumb enough to put Palin on the ticket. Not much of a stretch to imagine the twit sisters. I disagree with Obama on this one also, Valerie Plame was screwed royally (oh yeah, by Cheney and Bush, who ALSO didn't want any details coming out), but that doesn't mean I'm ready to tar and feather him. Good grief, Jackdog...
hockeydog
By all means, let's not "discourage future public officials from holding similar interviews".
Well, so much for conducting the public's business in the light of day.
So, being on-board-the-obama-express, the question now arises: "What dirty little secrets do they want to conceal?"
Bush and Cheney had their dirty little secrets, and those dirty little secrets are now being protected. Clinton had his dirty little secrets, as did Ronnie Ray-gun, and Jimmuh before him.
It is becoming clearer and clearer, that as times change, nothing else really does. Just a different set of corrupt politicians in the pocket.

Obama is afraid if the info gets out we'll be onto him, most of his cabinet and certainly all of congress!!! Our country would have such a vote of no confidence that the gov't would be lost! He's right!!!!
mattbenzor
The Vice dictator on tape it kinda has a nixon tone to it does'nt it.We shall hear it hopefully...........!
squiggy
don't hold your breath, Nixon tapes are just now being released. Might be awhile for the Cheney tapes to come out. World will be gone in 2012 anyhow, not to worry.
GrannyRob
Oh, give it up people! Dick Armitage outed Valerie Plame and even he wasn't guilty since everyone in Washington knew who she was and what she did for a living. Shall we go back to the Clinton administration and their garbage, let alone the present administration? Nobody lies better or more often than a Democrat. Only difference is it doesn't make any difference to a Democrat voter how much their idols lie or how rotten they are in character -- their voters will keep them on top no matter what crime they commit. So, please stop putting on the indignant goody two-shoes crap.
sparky13
Now wait a minute! I have this friend who just happens to be a Repubhick and I've tried for the last forty years to out-lie him, ain't possible!
zerbit
ROFL! Good one, sparky13. GrannyRob, all politicians lie, its in their DNA, but Repubs are just more prolific.
MaliciousDisorder
Not surprisingly this guy hasn't kept one campaign promise. What goes around comes around...2010/2012
How's that hope and change ?
sparky13
I guess that The Repubhick Party really understands the meaning of that phrase, don't they?
MaliciousDisorder
Yes they do. As soon as the democ-rats loose out in 18 months we'll see.
Honestly though, I wouldn't expect all the RINOS still in control to have enough balls by then to seek out enforcing the garbage put in place by this administration.
JDK-JDK
Obama is trying like hell to keep from any of the former administration's people from having to serve jail time, or at least go to trial.
I think he thinks he is protecting the country by doing this... 'holding it together', so to speak, as I'm sure he thinks ksomething like that could drive an even bigger wedge between liberals and conservatives.
I think it's plain to see, from everything Obama has had to hold back from the public from the last admin., that there would be SERIOUS problems if these things were let out.
sparky13
I understand the philosophy and apperciate it, but it sure is hard to take at times. Like when it comes to Cheney, I'd like to say, "String 'em up."
JDK-JDK
I'm with you. While I did vote for Obama, I would like to see some trials of this sort.
But would it be best for this country?
You and I both know that tempers are FLARING right now, mostly because of the economy, and political movement away from the more conservative to the more liberal is adding to the tension. That this has to be done is clear to clear thinkers, but just because it's right doesn't mean that tensions will loosen.
I think Obama and his people are thinking that adding to tensions at this time would be worse for this country than bringing the people to task would be right.
Is this wrong? I truly don't know. Even though I would like to see them all in court, I'm 50/50 on whether this would be the best for the country or not.
sonofloud
So you prefer to let criminal behavior go unpunished for the good of the nation?
SlaveRevolt
Actually JDK I think you are giving him too much credit. Obama's efforts to cover over the previous regime's crimes are part of the reason he's there in the first place. If Obama's elite puppetmasters had any suspicion that he would have any of the Cheneyites prosecuted then he would still be a community organizer neither of us had heard of. Obama's just the new, happier, friendlier face on the same old neo-conservative b.s. He's all about continuity, not meaningful change. What you had to choose between was two neo-conservatives, one openly so (McCain) and one in a thin disguise (Obama) as an alleged incrementalist reformer. Unfortunately in this kind of set-up either way the elite wins.

It would be better to have private interviews, than none at all.

Open government must be a reality for accountability which must be a reality for democracy to be a reality.

Peter0000
Why is the Daily Beast afraid to post relevant and current posts to solicit current political commentary rather than this regurgitation of crap. Perhaps a truthful exposition of the current administration and congress would prove harmful to their ideological aspirations.
sparky13
Lighten up 'Dude' not everything is that serious. Or maybe just "light up."
sparky13
Peter0000, try using effluence. At least that's what my doctor tells me to use. If you 'light up,' it'll cure the effluence too.
NYUKULELE
This guy Obama is starting to make Nixon look good. Even Helen Thomas is speaking out.
sparky13
Helen Thomas hasn't had a lucid thought in 30 years!
squiggy
I about fell out of my chair when I heard her on TV, LOL She's not been relevant in 25 years or so and now the media gives her a mic? LOL
Plantagenet
Obama just wants to change the subject from his failure to fix the economy and the huge job losses caused by his boneheaded economic policies.
sparky13
Before he gets to put some of his policies into effect, he has to clean up the mess left behind. You know two needless wars, complete collapse of the banking system and a total destruction of the real estate market. Major manufactorers going BK, etc...
When he gets some of these things taken care of, you'll then see his programs take effect. And you are not going to like them. You'll grind your teeth, hit desks with your fist, stomp your feet like a little kid, and sometimes just sit in your beloved recliner and just steam...and steam. Finally you'll die and the pain will all be over!
Plantagenet
So far the only thing that Obama has accomplished is to explode the deficit and destroy millions of jobs. Obama has "cleaned" those jobs right out of existence. If he keeps "cleaning" more jobs away, we'll go over 10% unemployment soon.
Obama's economic advisors are incompetent. Obama's economic plan was predicated on the prediction by his advisors that unemployment wouldn't go over 8% if his stimulus was passed. Zzzzt! Epic Fail!!! We just hit 9.6%, with more job losses coming due to more Obama's failed economic stimulus and Obama's idiotic plans to raise energy taxes in a recession.
sonofloud
Barack Obama, the Republicans best friend.
cbl99201
Apparently you haven't heard them grinding their teeth during the night :>).
sparky13
Effluence, Plantaganet, that's what my Dr. calls it, effluence ! Her friend The Psych calls it rationalization. Mostly she says your behavior is more like a REACTION FORMATION. I'll help you along and explain that reaction formation means that you take the opposite belief because the truth causes anxiety ! You can get help, call a mental hospital and they would be glad to even pick you up in their air conditioned van.
EtienneEtoile
Spark13 Careful, if they all ask for help at the same time it would bankrupt our healthcare system.
Plantagenet
Glad to hear your doctor and your "Psych" are helping you out, sparky13. Good luck with that!
sparky13
Thanks for the sentiment, P, they're good daughters.
Thank you.
