Obama Blocks Cheney Docs

The Obama administration will protect a court filing that reveals conversations Dick Cheney had with top officials over the Bush administration's response to "Plamegate." The information, derived from interviews between Cheney and special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, was kept private during the Bush administration, and now the Obama administration has agreed that it should not be disclosed out of fears that it will discourage future public officials from holding similar interviews. But the document could shed more light on Cheney's role in the Valerie Plame case, in which the CIA spy was outed in the press, setting off a scandal. The document is said to reveal conversations between Cheney and top officials about Bush's mention of uranium in a speech on Iraq and conversations between Cheney and Scooter Libby, who was convicted of obstruction of justice over the Plame case only to have his sentence commuted by the president. As for Plame, Assistant Attorney General David Barron said Cheney discussed "the appropriate response to media inquiries about the source of the disclosure."

Wouldn't that be the DREAM ticket?

That would mean the TOTAL elimination of the Republican Party.

JDK-JDK, well said! They were dumb enough to put Palin on the ticket. Not much of a stretch to imagine the twit sisters. I disagree with Obama on this one also, Valerie Plame was screwed royally (oh yeah, by Cheney and Bush, who ALSO didn't want any details coming out), but that doesn't mean I'm ready to tar and feather him. Good grief, Jackdog...

By all means, let's not "discourage future public officials from holding similar interviews".

Well, so much for conducting the public's business in the light of day.

So, being on-board-the-obama-express, the question now arises: "What dirty little secrets do they want to conceal?"

Bush and Cheney had their dirty little secrets, and those dirty little secrets are now being protected. Clinton had his dirty little secrets, as did Ronnie Ray-gun, and Jimmuh before him.

It is becoming clearer and clearer, that as times change, nothing else really does. Just a different set of corrupt politicians in the pocket.

Oh, give it up people! Dick Armitage outed Valerie Plame and even he wasn't guilty since everyone in Washington knew who she was and what she did for a living. Shall we go back to the Clinton administration and their garbage, let alone the present administration? Nobody lies better or more often than a Democrat. Only difference is it doesn't make any difference to a Democrat voter how much their idols lie or how rotten they are in character -- their voters will keep them on top no matter what crime they commit. So, please stop putting on the indignant goody two-shoes crap.

Yes they do. As soon as the democ-rats loose out in 18 months we'll see.
Honestly though, I wouldn't expect all the RINOS still in control to have enough balls by then to seek out enforcing the garbage put in place by this administration.

Obama is trying like hell to keep from any of the former administration's people from having to serve jail time, or at least go to trial.

I think he thinks he is protecting the country by doing this... 'holding it together', so to speak, as I'm sure he thinks ksomething like that could drive an even bigger wedge between liberals and conservatives.

I think it's plain to see, from everything Obama has had to hold back from the public from the last admin., that there would be SERIOUS problems if these things were let out.

I'm with you. While I did vote for Obama, I would like to see some trials of this sort.

But would it be best for this country?

You and I both know that tempers are FLARING right now, mostly because of the economy, and political movement away from the more conservative to the more liberal is adding to the tension. That this has to be done is clear to clear thinkers, but just because it's right doesn't mean that tensions will loosen.

I think Obama and his people are thinking that adding to tensions at this time would be worse for this country than bringing the people to task would be right.

Is this wrong? I truly don't know. Even though I would like to see them all in court, I'm 50/50 on whether this would be the best for the country or not.

Actually JDK I think you are giving him too much credit. Obama's efforts to cover over the previous regime's crimes are part of the reason he's there in the first place. If Obama's elite puppetmasters had any suspicion that he would have any of the Cheneyites prosecuted then he would still be a community organizer neither of us had heard of. Obama's just the new, happier, friendlier face on the same old neo-conservative b.s. He's all about continuity, not meaningful change. What you had to choose between was two neo-conservatives, one openly so (McCain) and one in a thin disguise (Obama) as an alleged incrementalist reformer. Unfortunately in this kind of set-up either way the elite wins.

Why is the Daily Beast afraid to post relevant and current posts to solicit current political commentary rather than this regurgitation of crap. Perhaps a truthful exposition of the current administration and congress would prove harmful to their ideological aspirations.

Before he gets to put some of his policies into effect, he has to clean up the mess left behind. You know two needless wars, complete collapse of the banking system and a total destruction of the real estate market. Major manufactorers going BK, etc...

When he gets some of these things taken care of, you'll then see his programs take effect. And you are not going to like them. You'll grind your teeth, hit desks with your fist, stomp your feet like a little kid, and sometimes just sit in your beloved recliner and just steam...and steam. Finally you'll die and the pain will all be over!

So far the only thing that Obama has accomplished is to explode the deficit and destroy millions of jobs. Obama has "cleaned" those jobs right out of existence. If he keeps "cleaning" more jobs away, we'll go over 10% unemployment soon.

Obama's economic advisors are incompetent. Obama's economic plan was predicated on the prediction by his advisors that unemployment wouldn't go over 8% if his stimulus was passed. Zzzzt! Epic Fail!!! We just hit 9.6%, with more job losses coming due to more Obama's failed economic stimulus and Obama's idiotic plans to raise energy taxes in a recession.

Effluence, Plantaganet, that's what my Dr. calls it, effluence ! Her friend The Psych calls it rationalization. Mostly she says your behavior is more like a REACTION FORMATION. I'll help you along and explain that reaction formation means that you take the opposite belief because the truth causes anxiety ! You can get help, call a mental hospital and they would be glad to even pick you up in their air conditioned van.

So, should we
hold the masters of the government accountable?
do it in a timely fashion for greater relevance?
promote systemic change. If so, at what rate?
enforce the letter of the law regarding investigation, prosecution, conviction and sentencing?

Is it just me, or are conservatives actually trying to use this against Obama. Okay so according to your arguments it would be better for the RNC if Obama said "forget it, lets just start airing the Bush admins dirty laundry." How would that possibly benefit the GOP? You should be extremely happy that our new president actually use judgment before just acting. Obama has made a few mistakes since becoming president, but IMO they have been his failer to correct the ridiculous DADT policy and other social problem. The bush Administration caused every problem we are now facing. The only reason that we are in debt so much, is because the spend for Iraq and Afghanistan were already allotted before he took office, so if he wants to spend money on something he thinks is important, he has to spend it on top of the ridiculously large amount of money in the Defense budget. We spend over 10x more then any other country in the world on military spend, but the funny thing is that we are getting all the money from loans. You cant protect your country when the money to protect it is coming from the same countries you are protecting it from. Bush spending and defense policy= epic fail

I have started calling Obama NObama. All of his promises were for naught. It's all political speak and he has done little to make this administration seem too different from the last.

I cannot believe we are expanding the "war on terror" (oh right, he didn't stop it, he just renamed it!).

NObama is a master of rhetoric and clearly ineffective to keep any of his promises or effect any of the "change" he oft repeated.

But Rapierwits, with all due respect buddy we've had over two years to see what Obama is all about. He gave us plenty of clues to it during the campaign, the transition and the time since he's been inaugurated. It all points in the same direction, that Obama's just a continuation of the same neo-conservative b.s. of the last eight years, not any kind of genuine change agent or even a liberal at all.

During the transition when he started out by picking the Zionist militarist Rahm Emanuel as his White House chief of staff and proceeded downhill from there plenty of people said "Just give him time, he's not even inaugurated yet... Just wait." Now it's been six months into a third Cheney term and some people are still saying "Just wait, he's only been president for six months... He'll start acting like a progressive, just give him time." Before too long it will be "Just give him until his first term is over and he'll come around and start being a real liberal, just you wait and see..."

Obama's not going to turn around. This is the real Barack Obama, a neo-conservative puppet of the elite, here to be a safety valve to allow the American left to safely channel their desire for real change in a safe-for-the-establishment direction. Nobody that gains national prominence as a major presidential candidate with a strong shot at winning his or her party's nomination is anybody that could ever meaningfully change things. David Rockefeller is not going to have fundraisers for anybody that is going to be a real, genuine change agent.

I believe that if he were found out, it would be treason, not something you impeach for, they used to use the firing squad. I am not sure what the rules are now. I am against the death penalty so maybe we could send him bird hunting by himself and kill two birds with one wad of shot.
