Obama Gives Kudos to the House
President Barack Obama acknowledged Saturday’s milestone health-care breakthrough in a brief speech on Sunday, thanking House members for their “courageous vote” and warning the Senate that a lot of work will follow the decision to revolutionize the country’s health-care system. “Now it falls on the United States Senate to take the baton and take this effort to the finish line for the American people,” said the president. Only one Republican voted for the $1 trillion bill, and the remaining members who opposed sat quietly when the final vote came in, as the Democrats who voted in favor of the bill cheered and slapped high-fives. “This is our moment to revolutionize health care in this country,” said Rep. George Miller (D-CA), who played a lead role in shaping the bill. Meanwhile, still-determined Republicans vowed to fight the bill’s future legislative process: “This government takeover has got a long way to go before it gets to the president’s desk, and I’ll continue to fight it tooth and nail at every turn,” said Representative Kevin Brady (R-TX). “Health care is too important to get it wrong.”

Well thank god we can use Reconciliation.
Now about that filibuster proof majority.

If you admire the efficiency of the post office and the DMV
You'll love Obamacare.

Plant - You forgot to insult the efficiency of the FAA, NASA and all of the branches of the military.
I'd like my healthcare run like the FAA.

The USPS is a government related agency, not a government agency. Its web page is USPS.com , not .gov. The MVDs are state agencies, not federal.
I have Medicare, Tricare for Life and the VA system. They work. They will not bankrupt me. They will not throw me out onto the street because I make a claim.
There is no such thing as "Obamacare." There are folks who have the same knee-jerk reaction to almost anything.
Plantagenet
Hi Bez:
There is no single healthcare reform bill, in spite of your kneejerk reaction in favor of it no matter what it turns out to be.
The generic term for the various healthcare reform proposals is "Obamacare."

Oaklynne,
I'll second that.

I fear that the Senate is going to delay until well into next year and that might be too late to have an effect on Dem primaries. Without that the 2010 elections might turn into a cake walk for the GOP. This isn't some kind of just-desserts for the Dems either, despite all the dense commentary out there coming from progressives right now. The GOP would sink us for decades. Enough wrangling. Get this thing passed NOW. BOKO

Congressman Brady is from the 8th District of Texas.
Much of the bluster and lying about figures in the House debate was from Texas Republican numbskulls. Texas is still fighting the Civil War and perhaps always will. All you need to get into Congress from Texas is a big hat, big belt buckle and a hollow head.

Women just got Historically SCEWED by Obama's Redistribution plan.
We have warned for months that women will lose their reproductive coverage under the Obama /Pelosi hatchback reform our health care system plan. For Obama redistribution means that women must give up reproductive care. Last night this came true in the most appalling fashion. Obama and Pelosi twisted arms to ensure the passage of a health care reform package that effectively outlaws abortion coverage for women, both in private insurance purchases or under government-run take over plans.

Obama is a weasel to beat all weasels and women who value choice should realized that they have been sold down the river by this scum bag.

The vote on the Stupak Amendment
Republicans 176 for
Democrats 64 for
Democrats 194 NO
Sadie how do you figure the Democrats are responsible for this, LOOK at the Republicans who voted for this. No you don't you femisexers, Your men are the weasels and scum bags who were all for this.
Take responsibility conservative women, and quit looking for a scapegoat for your misogynistic men. You all are 40 years late, and now you constantly blame this administration for your woes. You are just like your men.
cbeenthere
And while I am at it where were you all when Al Franken's anti rape law was in troulble. Sitting on your hands, that's where. You are a bunch of fakes.

I think this list knows Mr. Misogynist Cheenthere is far from the smartest bulb on the tree, but I will help Cheenthere understand what everyone else knows:
only one Republican voted for this bill.
math is tuff, Mr. Cheenthere, esp. that past 2nd grade, but this is simple:
This was a bill by the Democrats and from the Democrats that would have gone nowhere without the Democrats.
Obama spent all day calling Democrats urging them to vote for this bill and the deal with the devil he and Pelosi made to outlaw abortion coverage from both private and public coverages.
Outlaw is the word Donna Obama Brazile used, in fact.
So women have just been royally screwed by Obama and Pelosi.
I am a centrist. Conservatives don't back pro-choice issue 100%.
Obama is the largest of weasel for selling women down river.

I am not talking about the entire health care bill HR whatever it is, I am talking about the amendment that YOU ARE RAISING HELL about which ALTERED THE ABORTION FUNDING, and it was the STUPAK AMENDMENT (D), which was incorporated into the bill just before the final vote on the bill. The Republicans BLOCKED THE FUNDING for abortion with a vote of 176 Republicans and 64 Dems voting yes and 194 DEMS VOTING NO on that amendment.
I watched the process on Cspan something you did not bother obviously to do, and now you are parading your lack of knowledge.
You are no centrist -you are a dangerous to women because what you want do is trash the current administration, and you have no idea what you are basing your hate on, but you are hateful nonetheless sadie. I am a woman who was a part of the advancement of women in the seventies. You do nothing but attack the current administration and sit on your hands and talk trash and hate for the Dems fed you by femisex.
And yes, your Republicans voted majority for the amendment which denied funding and held the country hostage for the religious right.
cbeenthere
I think everyone knows about the followers of femisex the conservative women who acquiesce to their men, and can't think for themselves.
cbeenthere
And right now, there are real women who are working to get the Stupak Amendment out of the bill, while you sit there playing the conservative woman victim, acting out like a child because femisex told you to.
cbeenthere
On the chance that you are an activist in regard to pro-choice, firedoglake would serve to educate you, rather than teach you self defeat a la femisex. Otherwise you are hopeless and disingenuous.
sadie101
Cheenthere you really are mixed up. according you you, women who stand up for themselves are both man hating feminazis or toadies for men.
Anyone who reads your posts know that you are no woman and that you have sexism at the root of every post you write. Maybe you are one of Obama's left over trolls for the election, still on his payroll. that is my best guess. and judging by the fact you are constantly on this site, says you most likely are such a troll.
The fact that you can't understand that Obama put together this deal that sold out women is just a testament to your troll factor. This sell out of women was a amendment that Obama agreed to in back room deals. C-span all you want but it is the back room phone calls that made this move forward. get a clue and then get a job! you are doing Obama no favors trashing women who want the reproductive rights respected. As a matter of fact, you show exactly what sort of man Obama is! By employing you to shill female hatred for him it speaks volumes to his willingness to use sexism against women!

it isn't him. it's not clear to me he is calling the shots. you are talking about obama right? my comments were about the house members.

same old talking point new day.
http://www.pnhp.org/new_bankruptcy_study/Bankruptcy-2009.pdf
61% of bankruptcies are because of healthcare costs.
We fix that we fix the economy.
jus1drun
out, out damn spot.
hint; whether those bankruptcies happen or not, the economy would be in the tank. raised taxes to front load financing of health care reform is another nail in the economy's coffin. but it is a timing issue and health care reform's day will come.

I was watching Rachel Maddow on Meet The Press Sunday. She kept looking down on the desk reading her notes, they probably came from obama. I'm sure the notes were her talking points she received from obama, when Keith and Rachel had a meeting at the Whitehouse last week at a 2 1/2 hr. meeting. This meeting with two chosen journalist {well that's what they call themselves} is something never done before. Rachel and Keith were requested by obama.

Many, many people watch Meet the Press when Rachel Maddow is on who don't normally, that has been written up. As far as consulting notes, she aims to get it right, and she does it on her show also. The meeting you refer to took place a couple of weeks ago and both she and Olberman addressed it, it was no secret. She is admired for her intelligence and honesty, something you know nothing about, as you only post here for attention. Very needy.
Thank you.
