Losing at the Oscars isn't losing at all: With a consolation gift bag of $85,000 worth of free goodies, even the most disheartened nominee won't be going home empty-handed. But nothing beats this year's Golden Globes swag bags, however, where micro-pigs were handed out to any celebrity that attended an hour-long seminar on how to care for the bacon bits.

I am not normally an anti-hollywood type, but this kind of excess in the middle of a recession is just unseemly. If all the companies that donated those items donated the equivalent dollar value to foodbanks, homeless shelters, and veteran's groups think how many people they could help. Then all the celebrities could make matching donations and wear little ribbons signifying their support for the 17% of Americans who are unemployed and the 30 million without insurance. Never gonna happen, but it would be nice.

Me too. I don't hate celebrities, I'm not "mad" at the actors, and I'm not some crazy right winger. But the same people who draw attention Haiti, AIDS, breast cancer, or whatever could also make a difference with charities that help Americans who are really struggling right now. A little ribbon on your tux can generate thousands of dollars in donations from people watching at home.
