Pelosi: CIA Misled Me

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been taking her lumps since reports started circulating that she had been briefed about waterboarding in 2002. Today, Pelosi accused the CIA and Bush administration about misleading her over waterboarding and disputed accusations that she was complicit in the treatment. “To the contrary ... we were told explicitly that waterboarding was not being used," she said at a press conference. “I wasn't briefed, I was informed that somebody else had been briefed about it.”

I have rarely seen a bigger case of the yabba-dabs than today's performance. She really needs to step down. This has now become about her. With so many serious problems facing the country, she should not pull an Arlen Specter and make it about her while holding up progress.

All the threats and finger pointing make an investigation even more necessary. Anyone that is proved to have known about it and done nothing needs to at least be educated , especially if its someone holding public office.
That woman has more stories and reasons and excuses than any of my kids ever came up with. She is a piece of work and it is her party that is going to eat her alive. Conservatives don't like her SF politics but by golly we think she did the right thing when push came to shove. Let her base skewer her alive. Live by the sword and die by the sword. That is how I view the Dems about now.

I think the operative words here are, "that woman." Isn't that what this is really about? Bringing down Nancy Pelosi and any other woman in a leadership position?
Now the republicans are trying to make this about "patriotism," as if any critique or truth telling is "unpatriotic" if it involves critique of our shadow government, the CIA.
And Leon Panetta, in his painful insecurity and pitiful pandering to the CIA thugocracy, does not ask that this be looked at objectively, but defends the very organization he appointed to clean-up.
I am a Dem and I never liked Pelosi. All she worries about is her own pocketbook, personal power, and taking care of lobbyists so she can stay in power.
I hope she goes down. We can do better than her.
I believe her "That Woman" is Speaker Pelosi. The Bush Administration spent the last eight years lying to Americans and now we should beleive them? Cheney stirred this pot and some criminal news came out about him today. I should think he asked for it.

Washington politicians know what is going on in the nations bedrooms. But they have always pleaded ignorance about things that are non of their business. Pelosi is the most powerful person in the world. Her eyes are capable of penetrating every corner. She had to be aware of Geneva Convention violations. But she decided to look the other way. Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law.
And..... it's politics as usual in Washington! :-)

Was it "I didn't know" because I didn't understand?
Was it "I didn't know" becasuse I was never told?
Was it "I didn't know" because it wasn't mentioned explicitly?
If it is that important (which I don't think it is) then they can have a investigative committee to ask the people that were present in the room their perception of the meeting. Pelosi knows the CIA won't permit that because of future National Security issue. Therefore, she can say what she wants without any consequences.
The truth must come out now that the this "can of worms was opened". All documents needs to be released, and let's let the truth speak for itself. We must find out WHO is telling the truth, and then GET RID of the liers--WHOEVER THEY ARE.
This issue will never be settled UNTIL the truth is out, and WE'LL NEVER KNOW THE TRUTH until the documents are released. Get it done so the country can get back to "screwing us on something new."
WHO is holding up the release of the documents? SURELY THE INNOCENT PEOPLE WANT THEM RELEASED. The guilty does not.
Each person deserves the benefit of the doubt until they are proven wrong--THAT IS WHY WE NEED THE DOCUMENTS.
If we insist that the politicans live up to the standards that we have the right to expect, then we must do our part in seeing that that happens. We can do that by letting our congressman know how we feel, and then vote good, honest people in office.
Republicans are truly suicidal.

Not telling that Bush was running a torture program.

Then Bush and his admin should be charged as war criminals.
I'm sure Pelosi won't see a day in jail for not telling.
Bush, Cheney, Condi, Rummsy, Gonzalez and the rest of the criminals who signed there names to the program will never see the light of day.

I completely agree except the part about bushies never seeing the light of day. I just don't think the democrats will go for the jugular, even though i think they should. Democrats are simply not the vicious people repuglicans are. Too bad cuz I'd love to see bush and cheney swinging in the wind.
She said, they lie to us all the time. My question is what evidence is there for us that there is a politician that doesn't lie to us? They only tell us what they want us to hear not the whole story and we are expected to believe them. People run for office on one platform and then when they are elected they vote the other way and say things like that's why people elected me, they trust me to make the tough decisions.
This woman knew the entire story, and if she didn't it was encumbant on her to ASK more DETAILED & SPECIFIC questions!

I love how the repubs are trying to shift the focus to pelosi - she didn't tell and she knew. If she had known and she did tell back then can't you just hear how they would have screamed that she was a traitor. Republicans are just amazing pieces of work.
Aren't you doing the same thing in reverse to the 'repubs'? I think we all need to quit even the Democrat, Republican and Independent labels and just deal with the facts. I don't fit your 'repub' label but I do believe that she knew more than was said and just used the other matters of that time as her cover. She didn't write a letter of protest, but heard on a news program that she did not sign the letter that was sent.
She's the Bush playbook, she said that Immigration Enforcement is 'Un-American'. Isn't that saying the over 70% of the population that feels Immigration laws should be enforced are 'traitors' to America?
"They mislead us all the time (CIA(," she said. Asked whether the agency had lied, Pelosi said yes.
Give us examples of these lies and then those responsible should be prosecuted. There are Security commitees is in House and Senate that get to see all the secrets and covert missions. They have oversight and to the best of my knowledge no one on those committees have ever made such a degrading comment about the CIA. If they did, I'm sure those responsible would be at the very least terminated and could be prosecuted for lying under oath. This comment shows the lack of character by Pelosi. Rather than argue on the facts she uses name calling and partisanship to prove her point. She embodies what is wrong with the government today.
She really needs to step down before Obama throws her under the bus.
I dislike the CIA even more than I dislike Nancy Pelosi.
I don't care what she says. That distracts us from the real concern: what good has the CIA done in the last several decades? What major contributions has it made to our civilization?
Pelosi should go, but I felt that before this dust up. The CIA should go, and I have felt this for a very long time. Failure after failure--how dare they?
I agree, let's get rid of the CIA, right after we get rid of Social Security which is screwing us over now and will absolutely destroy the lives of my children.
