Powell Calls Out GOP

Colin Powell

That Colin Powell is feeling a little distant from his party is no surprise, but the former secretary of state has no plans to give up on Republicans quite yet. Instead, he has plans for the GOP. "I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country," Powell said in a interview airing Sunday on CNN. "I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself." Powell went on to criticize Republicans for trying to play "polarization for political advantage," urging his party to become more appealing to African-American, Hispanic, and Asian voters. But the most important step to get the GOP back into the majority? Get rid of the Oxycontin addict Rush Limbaugh. "Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?" he asked. "Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?"

GOP stop shouting at the world? Gosh, I'm deafened from listening to Democrats shouting for the last eight years. Has Powell nothing to say about that? And he wants to shut down Limbaugh? Sorry General, but you spent too much time in the military, where you could just tell people to shut up.
Why don't you just do the honest thing and become a Democrat?

Bravo to you, General Powell. Of everyone who still identifies as a Republican, you are the only one I respect, in spite of your tainted testimony before the Bush II war on Iraq. I look forward to hearing more from you as things unfold in the coming weeks and months.

readers of this website should read the conservative comments on the original cnn article. it will make you realize how little they will help society move forward now, or ever.

Since when is Colin Powell a spokesperson for the Republican party?
I don't think so and neither does any Republican.
Adios Colin - head on over to your natural place, the Democratic party.

Powell is speaking of a Republican party that is long gone. It's not Reagan's . . . it's more like Eisenhower's Republicanism he longs for.

Holy Crap!!! I read the CNN comments and can't beleive the contempt people have for Powell. This is a man who served this country in no way that dee-bag Rush can ever dream of doing but people are call him a coward or socialist! Why do people seem so threatened by pragmatism and rational thought?
