President Says to Lay Off Fort Hood
In a videotaped address released by the White House during Obama's flight to Singapore, the president exhorted lawmakers to put off any investigations of the Fort Hood shooting until law enforcement and the military had completed their own. "The stakes are far too high," said the president, who asked Congress to "resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into political theater." After it was revealed that the FBI knew that the shootings' only suspect, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, had contacted a radical Imam in Yemen, Obama ordered a review of all intelligence gathered on Hasan, and how that intelligence was shared between agencies. Some congressmen, including Howard McKeon (R-CA), the ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, and Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut independent who chairs the Homeland Security Committee, have said they will open their own investigations. Obama indicated that he was open to the possibility of hearings, but not while law enforcement and military authorities were in the middle of investigations.

That fool makes me sick.
What Carrie didn't give you a rise, so you have to come here looking for one, you weakling troll.
And it makes me feel great that he will make you virtually bed-ridden for the next 3 years, America is good!
Before he is done he will be making everyone sick, He thinks he has already turned this country into Cuba, and he is the Leader/Dictator...LOL I Don't think so, just because you stupid butt kissing followers believe this crap, and you stay be in the favor of the Messiah when he gives you those hand outs you need so bad. You are a pathetic bunch of losers who are too stupid to see when someone is covering up for the policies he has changed, which caused this to happen. You are the morons and trolls of the world and let me add one more adjective, FOLLOW OBAMA BLINDLY PIN HEADS
Ah, another Saturday, another day of the wit and wisdom of diamondgirl.
Tell me, diamondgirl, does winston help you write this c***, or do you help winston write cr*p? Which is it?
Having nothing substantial to say, DG works herself up until she's frothing at the mouth, then attacks the keyboard. The result is a litany of mindless name calling and idiotic sloganeering.
Hey dg - so you hit the bars last night and no one would pay for your drinks and on top of that you didn't even get laid so now you're even more pissy and angry than usual.
You can bitch and moan all you like; that's actually all you know how to do or you can get out there in a grass roots movement and do something to change what so obviously bothers you so much and save us from all your crybaby blues.
Have a nice day.
Not one of you Democrats can reply to this intelligently because, it's the truth and you have no other response but your one line blurbs. You are all a disgrace and need to take a good look at where you get this low self esteem from, that's as good a response you can come up with...Pathetic
Blah blah blah. If this had happened a few years ago and it was Bush doing the talking you would be agreeing with him.
and you stay be in the favor of-what does that mean? Follow Obama Blindly Pin Heads is not an adjective. I believe handout and pinhead are both one word. Lots more fun to correct your grammar and spelling than to look at the content. I haven't had breakfast yet.
dg - I'm just replying to you; your general ugliness, your ruthless remarks, your "bitch in a bag" routine. I wouldn't waste my time trying to talk intelligently to someone with your low class mind set.
Wow, diamondgirl.
This last post of yours gave me the mental image of your being released from a padded cell twice a day for half an hour of internet access and to use the rest room.
There's a point at which you don't argue with someone. You just laugh and shake your head.
Dems - I think you're already sick and don't need any assistance from anyone else. When every remark is a one-line insult, just how much do you think you're contributing to any resolution to what you constantly complain about. Carry on.
hfb-
What is the difference between a one line insult and the two liner insult you put out?
dg didn't get drinks gratis, didn't get laid, pissy etc. Hmm....not insulting?
hfb's inner schoolmarm comes out once in a while.
cbeenthere - dg paid for her own drinks; you were there? If I want to push back on someone who only makes negative remarks and is insulting to this country, I'll do just that. So you telling me I shouldn't be telling her is different how? Shut your pie hole and stick to your own insulting remarks, you pinhead. Happy? My intention was to be rude to dg because that's what she deserves and I know that because I've read so many of her insulting remarks that I'm all full up with just a little room left over for you and your little buddy, cville.
hfb-
Oh, and the Dems are already sick...just an equal opportunist, huh?
There is no way to make an intelligent response to someone who blabbers about turning America into Cuba, Messiah, etc. There is no substance, just the resentment of someone who has been left behind.
Obama wants to put his administration's spin on the Fort Hood tragic event. Hearings should begin as soon as possible by the chairs of Homeland Security Committee chairs or any other senate committee that wants to begin....I won't trust any investigation that's not independent of the Obama administration.
Its a shame that Moran's always turn everything to a lousy movie, we have been there don that, can we just say wait for the investigator to do there job, instead of having the neocon, the Zionist, the pro Israel's, and the AIPAC with Lieberman, and the rest of the nut job do the promotion for us, as for the first comment, we know that you hate Obama anyway , why bother we already know were you stand. get a life or maybe just see a movie .
congress just loves it when the president tell them what to do
Its shame that people on the right disagree with Obama even when they are perfectly in agreement. He's saying let the military(that they claim to oh so love) finish their investigation first before the democrats come in and they still find fault
How stupid are you, Obama has control, but if the R's in Congress do it, you know for dam sure they will find everything known to man, because they want to get to the bottom of this, and not cover it up. Gen Casey said it wasnt terrorism when he first came out with his statement, That to most people sent up RED FLAGS all over the place, so do you think they are going to hang themselves? I dont think thats going to happen, do you?
So we should trust the GOP to find "everything known to man because they want to get to the bottom of this."
Why do you say this? The GOP has a HORRIBLE record when it comes to terrorism.
For someone who doesn't even know that this was not the first terrorist attack since 9-11, you sure continue strut garbage.
jay - DG says what she says because she is unbalanced. Why else would anyone who really doesn't know anything spit out such vitriol? That and she loves to come back and see if she got a rise out of anyone. Boring little troll!
I don't trust anything about this Administration at this point, I didn't trust the last one either. Both lie and the other swears to it.
But now we have a terrorist attack in Texas they won't call a terrorist attack, why is that, and what are they trying to cover it up?
The R's will do a better job because they want to find the truth, they have no reason to hide it...
DG - They're not calling it a terrorist attach for a variety of reasons. They haven't completed their investigation and don't know everything yet. So far, most of the folks whose opinion matters seem to think Hasan was mentally disturbed and that would preclude calling it a terrorist attack.
Living such an untrusting life must be hard on you; no wonder you're filled with so much anger.
Anyone who tries to converse with zircgirl is wasting his time, she is obviously off her meds and delusional. Nothing she says makes any sense and all she does is parrot right-wing talking points. Ignore the troll.
diamondgirl: Major Hasan enlisted in the Army in 2003. If they tie him into terrorist activities during the Bush years, will you make the same noise against Bush that you are currently making against Obama?
The last thing this country needs is a couple of publicity seeking congressmen conducting an investigation into what happened at Fort Hood. Leave the investigating to the military & the Justice Department.
hfb1053: "They're not calling it a terrorist attach for a variety of reasons...... So far, most of the folks whose opinion matters seem to think Hasan was mentally disturbed and that would preclude calling it a terrorist attack."
How convenient. All Islamo fascists are mentally disturbed. Guess that rules out terrorism on 9/11 as well. No need for further inquiries. Free KSM. No need for a trial. Terrorism is over. As long as the folks whose opinion matters think so. Don't you have a brain of your own?
A very small group of people desperately want this to have been a foreign attack on America. They actually with we would be attacked, so long as it happens on Obama's watch.
Apparently they think that neither law enforcement nor the military can be trusted to investigate. In this and in all things they trust only politicians with an R next to their name (and probably not even all of those - damn RINOs, you know). If that doesn't tell you what they're about, I don't know what does.
Typo: "They actually wish," not "with."
Perhaps a "small group" are so motivated....or have become that motivated because they, like a very, very large group of Americans are fearful and angry that in cahoots with the current Congress have/are rocketing this country into ruin. I myself have not quite concluded to myself whether Obama is simply a man in way over his head or is a mistake that has happened which has allowed an American and Democracy hater into a moment of power to do as much damage as he can. This would not/could not be happening if the "Perfect Storm" of the Pelosi/Reid led Congress were not all lined up at the same time with Obama. I hope for America's future that 2010 puts the brakes on this rush to destroy a country whose system of governing has done so much for it's citizens as well as the rest of the world.
Until the investigation has been completed, I would call this a domestic terrorist attack by an Islamic extremest. The report, and this could be false, is that he yelled "ala akbar", which lately connotes a killing spree by an Islamic terrorist. Then I think of Biden's comment during the campaign that this president would be tested in his first year, and I wonder if this was the first test......
But, you're right, speculation on all the motives for this attack will continue, and it will come from all sides.........
Terrorism means committing violence, or threatening to commit it, to further a political aim. Where is it written that it has to be done by foreigners?
I think most people trust law enforcement and the military, but after the General's poor taste speech at Fort Hood and all the blind eyes turned to Hasan's religious fanaticism over the years, it looks like political correctness has infected the military so who knows what they'll conclude.
If they didn't think Hasan was sick then, why is his mental stability now in question? Oh.He killed 13 innocent people who were going to Afghanistan to fight Muslims. Unrelated to any political bias of the killer, just a little mental aberration probably caused by American non-Muslims teasing him about his religion. A commissioned officer physician in the American Army goes postal because he's teased. Really.
Regardless of what is revealed, or not by inquiries, it happened on Obama's watch just after AlQaeda instructed its thugs to attempt smaller, unrelated attacks.
Surely, the Administration would rather see this thing disappear when the head of Homeland Security observes that the "most important thing regarding Ft. Hood is bringing the killer to justice."
Does this twit have any reason to believe that this will not happen? And does it even occur to her that understanding how all of the apparently damning information that the Government possessed concerning the killer didn't result in preventing this pointless tragedy might be important?
No, I'm quite certain that the Administration would simply like to see this go away.
Why would Obama have to ask our lawmakers to lay off this story? Probably because they are so inept at making policies and laws that truly improve our standards of living. This way they can point a finger at someone else without disturbing 99%of the population.
A true American coward...
Who, you? Disorder
No, I think he meant Lieberman.
Lieberman? I thought he meant Diamondgirl.
What's it to you ? cb
Why is a lone gunman be getting turned into political theatre? There have been lone gunmen since the advent of guns, prior to that, lone swordsman or hachetmen. The person to blame is laying in a hospital bed, not feeling anything below his waist, wishing that he was dead.
Is it possible that the FBI and those around him missing warning signs. Yes, of course, but isn't that true for most multiple murders. In retrospect, it was obvious.
The only thing that could come out of a Congressional Investigation is self righteous finger pointing, political grand standing, and a ratcheting down on persons rights to associate and gather.
Isn't that what Congress is all about?
Thats right, a "lone gunman". A freak of nature. An accident. Oops! Like the lone gunman in Wichita who gunned down a doctor in his church. A lone gunman who people characterized as being representative of everyone who ever opposed abortion. A class of people our Homeland Security characterized as being a threat to the country -- worthy of special scrutiny. It is political theater because it IS political theater. You can't have it one way on Wednesdays and another way on Fridays.
It is "possible that the FBI and those around him missed some warning signs?" Come on. Put the cool-aid down. It appears that what happened is that that there were dozens of "warning signs" that various civilian and military authorities would have been otherwise required to act on except for the PC rules which override both protocol and common sense. An Army officer communication with the enemy? Spouting his pro-jihadist views to fellow officers? What does it take?
Perhaps you are of the view that nothing less than the shooter publishing his intentions on the front page of the NYT would constitute reasonable cause for concern. You see we all gave up rights under the Patriot Act so the fascists-in-charge could connect the dots more easily. Hell, I have to get undressed now when I go through the airport so these guys can find the dots. And these guys had the dots -- and intentionally ignored them -- very likely for political reasons. And if that's not why, we are at least entitled to know why we pay the big bucks for these guys to snoop and why, when the get the kind of stuff they are supposed to be snooping for, that they willfully ignore it. If they can't put this stuff together, why do I have to get undressed in airports? Why can my phone be tapped? If they are going to trample on my rights and then ignore the information they gather, what's the point?
And shock of all shocks that the "only thing that could come out of a Congressional Investigation is finger pointing, political grand standing and a ratcheting down on persons rights to associate and gather." Did you just figure that out? Maybe you ought to tell that to the guys running the zoo right now -- you know, the guys who want to investigate everything, every one of their opponents has ever done. It IS sick and perverse. But the threat of a public airing of things done in secret is probably the only real deterrent to our leaders simply burying their mistakes.
One of the real cornerstones of Obama's campaign was his blood oath that he would bring transparency to Washington. That alone was enough for many of us to vote for him. He is rapidly pissing all over that promise and washing it into the gutter. No change. Same old, same old.
Why? Because the POTUS is Obama and there are a lot of people who will use anything, absolutely anything in a relentless crusade against the President.
And the POTUS was Bush and there are a lot of people who will use anything, absolutely anything in a relentless crusade against the ex-President.
And your point is?
Guess what, both sides play the game that way. It may be repulsive, but it is what it is. "Getting the president" is simply what all the quail hunters in Washington do when the can't shoot quails. Get used to it.
Or maybe you just want to change the rules because, this time, you support this particular president. A long time ago, although I didn't support him, I thought Nixon was simply the victim of one of these vendetta's. I was wrong and the hunters were right. You see, the threat of exposure by your "enemies" is more of incentive for leaders to do the right thing than the promise of mindless adulation by your friends. Ever since Nixon, I have had at least a bit of grudging respect for the institutions which call our leaders to be open and accountable for their decisions.
misterdon,
Since you have not one single factual idea about what I did or did not say when Bush was president, your post is an absurd collection of conjecture. The only thing more stupid would be if I took the bait and started telling you what you thought and said years ago.
connie,
You silly twit. I did not say or even intimate that you said or did not say anything. I simply observed that there was no difference between the relentless people who would go after Obama and the relentless people who went after Bush or any other POTUS. You could hardly do anything more stupid than placing yourself at the center of my observation so you could take umbrage at the "insult".
First you might take up reading for comprehension so you might better understand that my statement contained no reference whatsoever to what you might have ever said or thought. And then you might grow up and grow a skin and realize that every observation that someone makes is not about you.
misterdon,
When you use the "reply" button, you are by definition replying to the post, in this case mine. When you use the word "you" in your reply, it has to refer to me, unless you don't know the rules of English.
I'm sorry if your language skills are deficient, but take heart. You can always study.
All true upside...Congress is messy...but how the Army handled this guy is certainly in question. So here we go...pick your set of facts and march on into battle!
Because, upsidedownzebra, if it weren't for the fear of the Army of calling out a suspicious Muslim, this "lone gunman" could have been stopped before he was in a position to murder American soldiers in a place where they had a right to feel secure.
Reading all this I wonder if many of you are old enough, but after 9/11 the country pretty much came together. Hell, Bush was getting 90% ratings. That lasted for me until the Rove machine ran an ad morphing Max Cleland (Vietnam Vet who lost multible limbs) into Osama Bin Laden in the 2002 Georgia senatorial campaign. Yet now, The GOP has Rep Hoekstra (sic?) leaking intelligence reports within days of the tragedy. How's that for hypocrisy?
Yes, mfkpadrefan, the "country pretty much came together."
That is, until the Left and the mincing Liberals saw the hard things that had to be done to deal with terrorism. And, as usual, they recoiled. Just as this president is doing now over Afghanistan.
Chan...you didn't respond to what I wrote (the Rove ad, Hoekstra leaking classified intelligence, the timing) but I'll respond to your thing. There is a difference between the need to do what needs to be done and the intelligence to determine what that is. It became obvious that the previous folk didn't have the latter, thus we are stuck in 2 wars with no end in sight. I'm happy Obama is taking his time...getting Pakistan moving on their side of the border and figuring out if we have a trustworthy Afghan partner ain't doing nothing! McChrystal"s request for troops in order to mount a counter-insurgency effort reminds me all too much of Johnson and Westmoreland...keep escalating with no end in sight. Why does this "mincing liberal" think that. I lived it...close to 2 tours with 1stMarDiv...sorry I couldn't finish the 2nd tour, I got blown up. Thanx for the disability checks, they come from your taxes...if you pay any!
Right..we should "lay off." Just like el Presidente did when his buddy in Cambridge swore at and resisted police officers who were making requests well within their responsibility and purview? Remeber that little episode? Obama judged that before he knew ANY facts..except that his pal had been arrested.
So what do we "know?" He was a Muslim..He visited and communicated with a radical cleric on line.He voiced strong disagreement with US Mideast policy and agreed with the violent terrorist actions taken at the Arkansas Recruitment Center..He was very angry at deployment overseas..AND..ta da..He just happened to pick a very crowded killing ground where he was assured of maximum effect in minimum time.
Hardly know anything....
What total bunk from the president.
This damn well must become political theater. Because the moronic politics of political correctness and "diversity" is what caused the pathetic, preventable tragedy of Ft. Hood.
This president would best step back from this issue because it is angering Americans about the pieties of our era beyond any event to date.
It's interesting that the murder of American soldiers on American soil by apparently extremists (which has occurred on several occasions now) doesn't seem to engage the president as much as the arrest of a Harvard professor. I suppose you could argue that he's learned from his rush to judgment in the Gates case, but that doesn't account for the relative lack of comment at the shooting of the military recruiters, something that occurred over a month before the Gates incident.
Combined with things such as his decision not to attend the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall (and only send a video where he managed to talk about himself), it would seem that Obama isn't really interested in things that don't interest him.
If that sounds familiar, that's because it was something that was said about George W. Bush.
Let the screams of outrage from the liberal drones about that comparison commence.
Fenngibbon...Ludicous...pathetic...the Berlin wall thing (an anniversary...big deal!) was happening while he and the 1st lady were heading to Fort Hood...he didn't overreact in the Harvard thing, he answered a question....the cop overreacted...no charges! This guy ain't gonna make you happy...he wasn't elected by 9 million votes to make you happy!
God... predictable as the sunrise.
He wasn't planning on going to Berlin long before the Ft. Hood shooting. And it was a big enough deal that dozens of other leaders showed up. At the very least you'd think he want to go so he could bow and scrape and apologize to Medvedev for the role America played in defeating communism.
As for the Gates incident, he could have and should have demurred when asked the question, but instead he made a rush to judgment (even after admitting he didn't know the facts). His reaction to Gates, though dumb, is understandable (Gates is a friend of his), but what does it say that he doesn't get similarly worked up about the deaths of these soldiers?
The danger is that numerous members of Congress have already gone public with statements in which they declare that they already know everything that needs to be knownabout the state of mind and background of Hasan, all for the purpose of political posturing.
I think Congress should hold investigation on all the member of both house on why would they share Intelligence that they may have learned from the committee that they sit on and could not find there big mouth when GWB was pasteurizing from the truth , the defence of our country and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and on top of that they should tell the American public where was Karzai and Chalabi or Alwai were working for before we installed them in there respective country.
I wonder what LuftiUSMC means...from your post you don't handle English like any Marine I ever knew...other than that...I agree with your post...Rep Hoestra should be kicked off the intelligence committee.
Simper Fi, I also served in the Marines , I joint the 1st Marine Division in 71 when they returned from Vietnam ,and I mostly stayed in Camp Pendleton, and MCRD.
Slapping on a label, whether "Islamofascist terrorist" or "mentally ill person with a gun" will explain nothing and do nothing to make the country safer. What if he was (or thought he was) fulfilling some extremist religious mission? What then? Should we round up all Muslims and put them in internment camps until the end of the War on Terror?
One constructive bit of change would be to wash out unstable and incompetent medical students, instead of giving them degrees and promoting them to Major. I know there is a culture of making sure that anyone admitted to a med school graduates, but this was beyond the pale. Our troops deserve better. The credentialing of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences should be called into question. Obviously their standards are abysmal and their concern for patients is sorely lacking.
You are correct nortonbourn just blindly saying this was an act of terrorism will not resolve anything, but the republicans are not intrested in resolution they just want to ride the wave of anger back to power and ultimatly declare war on Iran.
Has no one told them that we have no Army left?
That accusation you made idicula is disgusting. Keep in mind that Obama's man Rham declared "a crisis is a terrible thing to waste". So who uses crises to political gain? I hope you find Emanuel's statement as offensive as I do.
For me, there is already plenty enough info to call this terrorism. How many times does it have to happen, and how many lives must be lost, before those in charge are willing to acknowledge truth? Do you find it more important to ignore the warning signs and red flags in favor of being politically correct? I don't.
Did we do our best to prevent this terror? Hell no. There were probably 20-30 flags on this guy, that were ignored in favor of being politically correct. I've had it with that. At the very least there should have been requests put out to every gun and ammunition dealer within a 50 sq. mile radius to notify the FBI if Maj. Hasan purchased a weapon or ammunition. He definitely should have been on their radar.
It doesn't mean that even if the military had reacted, removing him from active duty, that he wouldn't have gone into a movie house or restaurant to commit mayhem. But the problem is that NOTHING was done.
This may come as a shock..but Hasan was a competent student and officer early on..there were no telltale signs..."Washing out" medical students wouldn't have washed out him!
The problem is far more complex and difficult to remediate...it really goes to the heart of how polite and non-confrontational we wish to be. Hasan made..and these are VERIFIABLE sources..months of very suspect comments. It's not about rounding up all Muslims..that's a straw man put up by those who think we should do nothing..have NO right to do anything.
ANY..I repeat ANY communication with a known radical cleric..OR a hostile view of the US and its foreign policy..should automatically place any military personnel on leave and immediately subject to investigation prior to reinstatement.
13...THIRTEEN..innocent proud Americans were shot down and killed...dozens more shot and injured..by a professed Muslim radical. I'd love to have just one of the pathetic wimps I read on this page have to walk to the front door of one of those 13 homes and explain to those parents..wives..brothers..sisters..why being absurdly sensitive to a scumbag is more important than their sons an daughters lives.....
He might have had some radical "muslim leanings", but I think a terrorism charge has to imply a conspiracy, and it is all but clear he acted alone.
You are mistaken. The entire terrorist war involves individuals going on suicide missions. The radical Islamic imams encourage their followers to take out as many Westerners as possible. When a Muslim has direct contact with a radical, extremist imam, and then starts lecturing similar, radical beliefs, it's time to take note of that person.
I hope you're not someone who needs to be hit over the head before you'll wake up. I'm sure you'd expect radical members of the KKK to be watched. So why not potential terrorists? BTW, he was a Muslim with radical leanings. Not a radical with Muslim leanings.
9 months in office and bam, a terror attack...
Well, then I guess we will have to add to Bush's legacy the real terror attack in DC-MD-VA against private citizens. The person who killed 10 citizens was put to death last Tuesday, his name was John Muhammed and he was convicted of terrorism. Bam.
And your point is what?
It puts the screws to your wingnut cry about Bush and his safety record.
So all the organizations that never acted on the information they had....that couldn't or wouldn't "connect the dots" are supposed to investigate themselves before any independent review is allowed by his highness, President Zero. That way all the insiders will have time to cover their tracks and create needed alibis for their ineptitude. If only Bush were still President, there would be a dozen independent investigations proceeding with the intent of showing that it was Brownie's fault.
"Rouge Beat; You said; ..."If only Bush were still President, there would be a dozen independent investigations proceeding........ " blah... blah... blah... blah... blah... blah... blah... blah...
The Primary Difference being Bush WAS CAUGHT LYING TO THE WORLD ....... and One Of The Lies has resulted in the NEEDLESS LOSS OF Thousands of lives and costs to the U.S. exceeding a Trillion Dollar$!!! (Forget the "NO Bid Contracts" and various "Sweet Political Dealings...") Too Bad Independent Investigations weren't undertaken regarding WMD's, Torture, "The Outing of Valerie Plame", "Yellow Cake" in Niger, etc., etc., etc..................
Thank you.
