Burris Out of 2010 Race

Roland Burris, the Illinois senator who was appointed by disgraced ex-governor Rod Blagojevich, announced Friday he will not seek election in 2010 due to a lack of funds. Burris has been seen as a pariah in the Senate since he took over the seat vacated by Barack Obama, and was feared to be an easy target for Republicans in the 2010 race by Democrats. Burris raised less than $1,000 in campaign funds the first three months of 2009.

He didn't sign a check so he is probably off the hook, legally, but for some reason? Reid didn't accept him. He's a lame duck, got his 15 minutes of glory and life long benefits, he's good.

That last tape with Blagojevich's brother was so clearly a bribe conversation.
Roland Im sure had to be convinced by somebody to call it a day.
Hes a natural stonewall.
Its like he doesn't see his own corrupt behavior.

Yeh, like the rest of the Senators, who would not want to see their esteemed Office defiled by an indictment of this critter.

If Burris were a Republican, I think we'd see a lot of remarks like this:

"There goes another top GOP contender for 2012.... The republicans are really self-destructing now."

I tend to agree. But it's not the READER'S bias on this sight that I find troubling...

The lil fella got his feelings hurt when Franken showed up and people talked to him. The only job on the hill for Burris has been to pass out the towels in the Senate washroom.

If Burris thought he could raise the money he would be in for sure. That little man has a huge ego. But from the stories I have read he hasn't been able to raise more than 1000.00. Total. He knew he was toast.

At least he can add US Senator to his tombstone. He already has Trailblazer engraved on it...

Class of '99 myself. And while at that Senior All-Night Party I won a Men's Grooming Kit that contained, Yes, Brut!

10 years later, not empty yet :)

Now he can start trying to attach his name to public works projects. How about the "Senator Roland Burris Memorial Speed-Bump" for starters?

The Roland Burris book of legislative accomplishments will be one of the thinnest volumes in the Library of Congress.

Come on, kids, the Tomb Carver got all that he was looking for -- something to fill that empty space on the wall of his mausoleum.

No harm, no foul.

(It's only Illinois, after all.)

I dont think he is going to jail, but this was the best move he could have mad, by saving himself the campain money and stress. however, now the race for Illnois's last senate seat is set to bet long and expensive.

It doesn't matter by this point - Burris got what he wanted, the right to be called "Senator" the rest of his life, and to provide the capstone on his mausoleum monument to himself. His lies and evasions held just long enough and got him the prize he sought. This is a valuable lesson for children.

I thought congressman Jackson bought this senate seat, still wondering how Burris pulled it off, more money, more experience....what?
