Sanford's Intimate Emails to Mistress

The State, a South Carolina newspaper, has published an intimate email exchange between South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford and his Argentine mistress. Sanford shows a poetic side: "In the meantime please sleep soundly knowing that despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.” Gawker reports that The State threatened to publish the emails, which it's had since December, before Sanford made his public confession. His mistress, identified as "Maria," calls Sanford her "impossible love." Sanford wrote: "I love your tan lines...the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light." The newspaper said it obtained the emails in December, but was not able to verify them until now. They are dated from July.

Quite right.
Who could forget Charles' soul-stirring "I wanna be your tampon" line?
(I am now experiencing dry heaves.)

Yuck! I need a shower after reading those. And there's more to come......

Anyone want to take bets on how long after these emails are made public before the Governor resigns?

More importantly, how about odds that his kids are ridiculed past being scarred for life over this and leading obscure lives to avoid the public for the rest of their days? What price they will pay alone for their father's actions and the marital problems they live with now, let alone the joy people have printing this across the headlines for the bottom line! Partisan hacks are digging their graves, both sides. When will Pelosi come out and say stop "for the children?" I'm not holding my breath.

Now why can't Mr. Cheney go off and disappear like that? Sorry, had to shake the desire to want to barf off with a snip, short jibe!

What a father's day present. It is his bus., except for the fact that he is married and in an unforgiving party that has caused the other party to also be unforgiving!

Okay. The man screwed up, no question, but do we *REALLY* need to know what was in his private e-mails to his mistress? Furthermore, is it really the public's business what our officials do in their private lives so long as it doesn't affect their job performance? While it saddens me when ANY person is unfaithful to his or her spouse, what concerns me in this case is Sanford's complete and total disregard for Common Sense (remember him?) and standard protocol. Go off and play with your Argentinian mistress if you think you can get away with it, but at the very least tell your Lt. Governor or appoint SOMEBODY in charge to deal with an emergency should one arise--however unlikely that might seem. THAT is the aspect of this issue we should be focusing on--not whatever "poetic" or "dirty" talk went on between two consenting adults making poor personal decisions.

The important question that the reporters should be working on is, did the Governor use public funds to visit his mistress in Argentina? You are right the emails they are printing "smacks" of tabloid journalism. And again I say, YUCK!

No woman wants to stay married to a man who is obviously having an affair of the heart, but he wanted it all. And the public is sick of hearing about this stuff. He totally could have kept this private. Divorce and remarriage no longer destroys careers. The conservatives have held themselves up to be morally superior, that's the kicker.

South Carolina does have laws on morality and decency on their books. Will the fornication law apply here?

Ask the Secretary of State about staying with a man that commits adultery. Maybe her husband is her path to success.

Mizoodle, We don't REALLY need to know every lurid details of his private exchange with his mistress. But the Governor is the one who budges in and condemns gay couple's private behavior in their own bedrooms. When someone fall from their high horse, it's always delicious. People just cannot help but getting a good lough out of this hypocrite. Though I was oddly moved by his school boy dazed love-struck confessional press conference. He is truly in love and that was actually touching, though my heart goes out to his wife. I hope when they divorce, she will get all the properties and the custody of the four REMARKABLE boys. I found it incredible that when all this is happening, Sanford struggled to protect his mistress more than his wife of 20 years. What a jerk!

Agree with Mizoodle. His private emails are nobody's business, unless he was using a state e-mail account? (.gov is hot?)

How did the emails get public? Was it just someone posing as an argetinian girl (2hot4guvnor19)?. Could it be the same situation as the guy posing as a colombian girl talking to Castro's son? (google: castro internet girlfriend)

Where's that college kid that outed Sarah Palin? Start there. Once again, here is someone who's hoisted himself on his own sword, so to speak. When will these politicos understand the new technology that they use at their own peril.

These people, whether they be Republican, Democrat, Independent, etc office holders, whether they are any public figure are not doing anything new. In today's media they just get exposed. And we all feign shock and disappointment. However, it's more acceptable then we care to admit, and the people who suffer the most are the spouses and children of these cheaters. The people who criticize and make fun of these people need to know that it can happen to them or someone in their families.
This has gone on forever and will continue to go on.

Progressive2 - My point is, albeit not well stated, is that "he who is without sin, caste the first stone". Politicians flaunt their belief in the sanctity of marriage, but when a few of these elected officials have affairs, the response by the media, commentators, and other elected officials is one of shock and condemnation. How many of them have done the same thing?

I would bet my next paycheck that he keeps his pension. Every dirty politician keeps their pension. Ask the ones that are collect it while in prison. But then again people on welfare are allowed to do drugs with our tax dollars. Maybe we should stop paying for losers and hold them accountable for their life choices.

The little guy was telling the big guy what to do. Is this news? This has been going on for thousands of years.

These people (Billy Clintstone, Sanford, Ensign, et al) are not leaders. The world is leaderless.

Sanford said in the presser that the flling got intense 5 months ago. Yet, he writes about "tan lines" and Ms. Maria's "two magnificent parts" around her hands on July 2008.

The guv can't count the months? If you go through the press conference, and then these emails and then Mrs. Sanford's statement published today, Mr. Sanford can't even keep his lies straight. This moron was presidential material?

In this blogosphere age, Bill Clinton would not have survived the Geniffer Flowers debacle. Hey, Mrs. Clinton had a Tuzla moment of her own didn't she. Lesson: you can lie. But do expect the blogosphere to expose the sin, 24/7 until thoroughly taken to the cleaners.

I am NOT sympathetic to this republican and certainly not to this situation. However, some of these comments are extremely virulent. He is a human being and sometimes humans fail BIG.

Unfortunately this is a common human weakness and far from the worst one.
