Senate Cools on Climate Change

CS - Polar Bear
AP Photo

Bad news for polar bears: The Senate has delayed taking up climate-change legislation until “some time in the spring,” according to Majority Leader Harry Reid. It will first tackle job creation and financial regulation—signs that the body is reluctant to address the environment at a time of economic uncertainty. The White House, meanwhile, encouraged lawmakers to move as quickly as possible. It is moving ahead with plans to have the EPA declare greenhouse gases a danger to public health, which could trigger regulation.

Wow some good news.
"In the 1950s the polar bear population up north was estimated at 5,000. Today it's 20- to 25,000, a number that has either held steady over the last 20 years or has risen slightly. In Canada, the manager of wildlife resources for the Nunavut territory of Canada has found that the population there has increased by 25 percent."
Soon we will be hunting them.

No climate change legislation? No "cap and tax" bill?

So Obama failed again. Good.

Damn fools! Don't you people realize it's ALL connected? If we move to a sustainable economy, using sustainable energy, with the right incentives, we could create a million new jobs, and put the US back on top. But no, we let the morons have a voice, and because of our failed education system, the voting majority make fear-based emotionally driven decisions, instead of looking at FACTS and using LOGIC.

Humanity doesn't deserve this planet as we prove time and time again throughout history. It's a shame, because there are good people here, but the media just focuses on the nitwits like that shameless self-obsessed moron Sarah Palin (or worse, Rush Douchebag). So lets get the Republican extremists in power, let them sell off all the parks, turn the sky in Chinese air quality (I've been there, and I can tell you what coal power stinks like). Maybe the film '2012''s prediction will come true and we can start over. I'm sick of the damn intellectual wealthy elite sit on their hands and ignore the fight.

So folks, I will now begin MY Campaign of being the ANTI - PALIN. If you hate her, then perhaps you'll like me. More to come....

GLOBAL WARMING: HA! Al Gore and the rest of the smooth talkers have made a hugh fortune on this. And it was PLANNED, hear me, PLANNED. This world goes through cycles. When the ice age occured there were no machines, no coal burning, nothing about man that made this planet warm up. THERE WAS NOTHING!!! But it slowly warmed all by itself to what we know today, a serving piece of dirt that feeds us. This is nature. There's nothing you can do to change those cycles. WE have had much warmer climate than now. And it cooled again. IF you just have to have something to worry about try WATER. The world is capable of producing only a certain amout of the wet stuff. But population has figured out a way to waste more than it can produce. Within the next ten years we will see water shortage like never before. Don't take my word for it. Look at world production of water and then look at the usage, Look closely at industrial usage. Then do the math.

Yes, let's create green jobs like Spain did, which made a massive investment in them and now has 18% unemployment. The green jobs fantasy was concocted as a way to sell the move to solar, not because it actually works. Just like saving money on health insurance was a strategy to sell universal coverage, not because libs actually care about that.

A bit early here in the west to swallow this nonsense.

My favorite line, "Humanity doesn't deserve this planet as we prove time and time again throughout history." LOL. It's called the HUMAN CONDITION. Guess what? We're not perfect. The libs think we should be and set up polictics and policy toward that goal. No wonder they're so angry.

Crypto,
In fact, the earth does not create water. The same water that you drank today, at one point, maybe a million years ago, maybe more recently, was probably drank and urinated out by another creature or two. There is a set amount of hydrogen and oxygen on this planet. The problem we face is keeping it clean, recycled, and distributed.

Now CO2 on the other hand...We are taking coal out of the ground, where it has been for millions of years, and releasing it as a gas at rates that this planet has never seen, not even close. It is simply wrong to say today's conditions are no different than previous chapter's in Earth's history.

Seriously, we should all be celebrating the news about recent temperature trends.

Ignorance and indifference to long term effects is, as usual, the guiding principle for those who want to maintain their creature comforts and the status quo.
But according to the vast majority of scientists and scientific organizations (those not funded by the fossil fuel industry), global warming is not only happening but quickening.
The results will be disastrous. As land masses shrink, millions of people will move into other populated areas, and wars will occur. Disease carrying insects will multiply and spread causing millions of deaths, but if you're lucky, it won't be you who dies. Besides, those horrible efffects will mostly be felt by the next generation. You know, our kids and grand-kids. So what the hell! Buy that gas guzzler. No need for conservation! So the oceans rise a few feet. We didn't need New Orleans or other coastal cities anyway.

Right, liike they are not going to suffer from Obama and you libs and Soroscrats policies. So, what were the conditions on the planet when life began? Did man cause temperatures to drop one degree for a year, that's right it was a valcano.

"Up periscope," you are so right. I'm still in a spin seeing how easily Americans are swayed into thinking global warming is a minor issue, just as they are swayed into thinking they need H1N1 vaccine or they'll perish. What is being ignored today will be a huge problem for our children, but even people who are considered educated and intelligent are buying this story hook, line, and sinker. Having had the privilege of being alive for over 60 years, I have SEEN global warming during my lifetime. Talk about being in denial.....

Reply to pclayton: Give your memory a nudge back to 1972 when we were told the planet would freeze in the 21st Century and large population centers would become uninhabitable. Earth warms and cools.

Look on the bright side: more people die worldwide every year due to cold than to heat. If the planet warms, fewer people will die from cold.

|

isabella,
One of the biggest misconceptions about climate change is that it will simply "get warmer". Which is why I don't understand why people call it global warming. Sure, that's how it starts. But as soon as that happens, it will halt the mixing of the oceans and then the ice sheet will come down from the north. So they were really correct when they used to say the next ice age is coming. If you don't believe me, go ask a scientist.

The current Oval Office Zero has nothing good to say about the future of America either. Perhaps we all should rent the movie "Soylent Green" and just prepare for the end.

Don't be so sure. Aren't they planning to roll out amnesty for illegals next year? Yeah that should make the pink slip folks real happy.

And of course that "sometime in spring" is not too far away for cap and tax -- I doubt that the concern over unemployment will be much abated by then.

There will be no animals,no books,no pictures, .We will hear a voice over the microphone, and we will respond. and we will walk as zombies to the elctronic pace of the world.Gorgeous beast.!!!

Makes me want to cry when I see that people don't regard what we are doing to the Earth as seriously destructive. This planet is so marvelous yet we watch football and what Sarah Palin says like that is all that matters. Americans have got to straighten out their priorities and soon. It's not about celebrity it's about maintaining the beauty and majesty of our physical world. Have we all become a airhead adolescents overnight? We have to snap out of this fantasyland and face reality: it won't matter if you have a job if there is no food to buy.

you are correct, it won't matter if you have a job if there is no food to buy. the problem is neither you or anyone else knows if that is the choice we are facing. you also don't know if you will be hit by a car if you leave your home today. forget the crying, soldier up and face the day with a smile on your face.
