Senators Offer Climate Bill

Senators John Kerry, Lindsey Graham, and Joe Lieberman gave Barack Obama a boost Thursday by proposing a compromise climate bill, suggesting the country cut greenhouse-gas emissions by 17 percent by 2020. The goal parallels legislation previously passed in the House and what Obama will present at the international climate talks in Copenhagen next week on America’s behalf. Kerry—who said the Senate is dedicated to addressing the climate crisis—and the other two senators' roughly established “framework” also plans for more expansive offshore oil-and-gas drilling and support of nuclear power on the federal level. Obama, according to the White House press secretary, sees the effort as a significant move toward an agreement in the Senate. While Lieberman said the three senators don’t have the 60 votes needed to advance the bill at this point, he says he believes there will be a deal in the future.

Gosh I hope we can get a deal! I'd love to impose new taxes on the economy in the middle of a recession, in pursuit of limiting a gas (C02) that makes up less than 10% of the entirety of the greenhouse effect. I wish Kerry and Gore would explain to us a little better how reducing a gas that accounts for that small a percentage will actually limit climate change. Oh right, they can't. But I'll trust them anyway, they are good guys!

BTW, facts are facts. The most pro C02 limiting scientist will admit that water vapor makes up 50% of the greenhouse effect, cloud cover another 25%, and C02, along WITH OTHER GASES, makes up the remaining 25% of the effect.

Let's just kill a few million more jobs.
Increase unemployment to 30% and drive us into another depression.
Absolute nonsense.
Any fool who votes for this needs to get kicked out of office.
Now is not the time for this legislation.
We simply cannot afford it.
Jobs and businesses will flee the US, It will make us more dependent on foreign oil....

Maybe a more positive approach like providing funding and fast tracking nuclear energy projects? How about a program to promote the use of natural gas in utility vehicles and fleets? There are many things we can do that don't require the creation of a massive job killing hidden tax.

All the Sara Palin's and other climate deniers in the big blue marble don't get it: if the powers that be don't act now in getting global warming under control, the amount of destruction caused by extreme weather will dwarf any additional cost we have to pay to reverse our pollution. Ya think Katrina was a once in a lifetime event? Get your head out of the sand everyone and help save our planet!

Climate denier here. Heard a clip of Al Gore today and can you really believe a
guy that said and i quote '' The center of the earth is 2 million degrees" Wow, you learn
something new everyday. I had no idea the center of the earth was hotter than the sun.
Also have you ever noticed that since Gore has come out with his sky is falling B.S.
he won't debate anyone that has a difference of opinion. And every interview he give's,
all the question's he's asked are creampuff question's. Why is that?
If he really believe's all the crap that spill's out of his mouth you would think he would
be more than happy too make a denier look like a complete idiot in front of all too see.
But since he refuse's any debate whatsoever, kinda make's him look like he's a little
afraid of what the end result might be.

Screw global warming... what about a clean environment for our kids to live in?

What about telling all the @ssholes in the middle-east and their oil... to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I would like to have energy that doesn't fund terrorists. Send them back to the tents that they came from... I hope oil tastes good. As far as I'm concerned, you can put salt on it.
