Taylor Swift Bests Jackson at AMAs
The competition was stiff, but 19-year-old Taylor Swift managed to beat out Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon, and Eminem for Artist of the Year at the 2009 American Music Awards. Swift also took home awards for favorite female pop/rock artist and best country album. Jermaine Jackson accepted favorite male soul/R&B artist, best soul/R&B and pop/rock album, and favorite pop/rock male awards on his brother Michael's behalf. Other winners included the Black Eyed Peas and Green Day. Sunday night's show included a few notable showstoppers. Rihanna took to the stage to perform a single from her new album Rated R. Lady Gaga put on one of the night's most memorable performances when she sat down to play a grand piano and it caught fire. Jennifer Lopez had a blooper moment when she slipped up on a dance move and landed on her bottom.

The kids love Taylor Swift. she is a good role model for girls. Imagine a singer that doesn't have to look and dance like a stripper!

Give her a couple of years, the next albums. The image will change. It's not like all the female artists started off dancing like strippers: Shakia, Beyonce, Rihanna, Keys, even Carrie Woods. ( I saw Carrie Woods last night, and I was like, she has changed.)
When a young woman comes into her sexuality, the image changes. It's just facts and time. I saw her last video, "15", she's not doing the cinderella thing anymore.
Don't put her in a box, she is very talented. She won't be 19 for too long.

Taylor Swift is spoonfed pablum ala Disney and marketed like Hillary Duff and Miley Cyrus to the little girls. I took my daughter to see Taylor Swift at Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming this past summer...Then a few nights later I took her to the Friday night Kenny Chesney performance...and while watching the CMA awards my 10 year old daughter said..."I'd like to know how she beat out Kenny Chesney for entertainer of the year when she cant sing live, Kenny tore her up!" (I'm so proud).
in reference to the not dancing like a stripper comment...Did you not see her CMA performance? No, Taylor Swift is a flash in the pan, destined to go the way of one or two hit wonders like deana carter and that one no talent they were pushing a couple years back that I cant remember her name now....Country music for girls/women is being formulated much like the pop boy bands in the '90s...No soul and no talent.

maladapted you need to grow up. mj is not gay an he didnt do anything to that kid he was a great man an he was the god of music. taylor had to right to that award. she isnt even in the same league as mj. he was famous before she was even born. this is why i dont watch idol cuz its not based on talent. if it was mj would of won hands down in fact they need to do a recount cuz i watched the numbers an she wasnt even in the lead.

I liked the "Steven Tyler" sound of Adam until last night. It takes a lot to repulse me but his performance did. He is not quite as hot as he thinks he is and I hope he takes to heart some of the criticism sure to be aimed at him.
I'm not a country fan but considering who all was in that group, I'm glad Taylor got it.
It was a great show until the end...Adam sucked and was just nasty.

Taylor Swift is a terrible role model. She performs at rodeo venues even though she's been made aware of the terrible animal abuse involved. In contrast, Carrie Underwood refuses to sing at rodeo-related events. Boo to Taylor, kudos to Carrie.
