Reservists Called Up

Khaled Meshaal
Hasan Sarbakhshian / AP

Israel bombed supply tunnels in the Gaza Strip in an attempt to force Hamas militants to halt rocket fire. Air force jets bombed the Islamic University in the Gaza Strip and Hamas government offices overnight. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said the aim is to "change realities on the ground" in Gaza as the country called up 6,500 army reservists. Palestinians said 296 people have died in the two days of air raids. Earlier, Khaled Meshaal, the political leader of Hamas, called for a “third intifada” and the return of suicide bombing.

When will they learn? When you start killing children, it gets people so exquisitely riled up, that retaliation seems like the only way to soothe the anger. This cycle will never end as long as men continue to blind themselves to the inevetable consequences. We, in the south, have learned that ' northerners' are not our enemies. Even after the devastation of the Civil War, the burning of southern mansions, the killing of brother by brother, we slowly learned to bury the hatchet. We decided that living side by side, in peace, is better than the heartbreak of war. Jews and Arabs living side by side in the Gaza Strip is the only sane answer. When will they learn?

Why does not Arab Egypt not have to to lift its blockade of Gaza? Just a little insight into the unreality of racial murder politics: Only the evil enemy his guilty.

So long as these "leaders," whose goal is to kill or push into the sea every Israeli enjoy the support of the Palestinian people, no peace is possible.

First of all Israel blocks the route to Egypt not the Egyptians and it would make no sense for Egypt to do so. Why doesn't Syria or Egypt or even Lebanon use those secret passways to funnel needed resources like food and water into Palestinian terroritory instead of weapons? The post by scarlet reflects directly with all my studies of the region. Integration and Cooperation instead of Segregation leads to more peace better than GIANT WALLS. "President Olmert tear down these ways!" Hopefully the newly elected US government will reflect my sentiments.

Soccer4 You say: First of all Israel blocks the route to Egypt not the Egyptians and it would make no sense for Egypt to do so..

She sense of Egypt's actions I won't discuss, but look at a map, Gaza is bordered by Egypt. Egypt maintains wall to contain the terrorists in Gaza from open access into Egypt.

Let's be clear. Israel is justified in protecting its citizenry. It has the RIGHT TO EXIST. Even after clear and succinct warnings of reprisals, televised internationally, hamas continued the rocket attacks into Israel. This is not about integration or cooperation. This is about survival and predominent arab leadership mentality denies Israel's right to exist. The palestinians are pawns in the effort to bring about the demise of Israel. The creation of an independent Palestinian nation is righteous, but was sacrificed by their own to continue the "struggle of destruction". Hamas is an organization of terrorists backed and supported by Iran. Israel will fight with or without American support. Reagan who demanded the destruction of the Berlin wall understood peace through military superiority. Ask Russia. Israel should not depend on the newly elected US government considering the history and expressions of weakness of its newly elected community organizer. I repeat: ISRAEL HAS THE RIGHT TO EXIST.
