BEER SUMMIT

Gates, Crowley, Obama Share Drinks

HP Main - Beer Summit
Pete Souza / The White House

Nothing like a casual brewski between friends—or a highly orchestrated "beer summit" in the White House Rose Garden between the president, a scholar and the cop who arrested him. Yes, the presidential happy hour finally happened. Two weeks after noted black scholar Henry Louis "Skip" Gates accused Cambridge (Mass.) Police Sgt. James Crowley of racial profiling for arresting him at his home near Harvard University, the men clinked mugs of beer Thursday evening with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Obama's beer of choice? Bud Light. Crowley, meanwhile, chose Blue Moon. Sitting at a round table, the men also munched peanuts and pretzels out of silver bowls—as TV cameramen and reporters were kept 50 feet away, after being allowed to view the meeting for less than a minute. The president's aides hoped the "summit" would convey a hopeful message about race relations in this country, and turn down the temperature on an incident that has become "so hyped and so symbolic." At a press conference following the meeting, Sgt. Crowley called it "cordial and productive" and said that he and Gates would meet again.

LOL!! Let's sing Kumbaya and pray for fewer distractions, so that this President can finish cutting his teeth in his first executive position.

This was a "community organizer" moment - and exactly what was needed. BTW, for all you dumb Yankees, the governor of Texas does squat. The real power in the state is Lieutenant Governor. You elected squat not an executive;-)

didnt recognize Biden from the back, guess those plugs only comb so far.. no surprise I guess, heard he always wanted to be a cop, to get back to those small-town PA roots, but he couldn't pass the test - omg can you imagine a more shallow, superficial exchange than during this pow-wow? guess they told spanish jokes.

No, it's Miller Time. (bada-bing)

Then they're going to sit around a campfire, and sing Kumbaya. (ba-dump)

They came, They drank, They talked...They drove off and nobody really cares. This worldly meeting of minds spins off like the Big 4 of the Paris Peace Conference of 1919. Only this time, they wore comfortable cotton instead of heavy wool.

laughorcry - I had no idea so I looked it up before posting the comment, and went with the Merriam-Webster version, though of course you might be making a funny. But I don't think Obama does reefer. He seems like a alcohol and nicotine man.

OK ALL YOU OBAMA FANS! ^
Wipe your mouths, the sarcasm is soaking your shirt/blouse!

The Prez oughta get credit for opening up a national conversation about race/police while making up for his "stupidly" moment.
(You'd n e v e r see the shrub do anything like this)

Now go home and wait for Sarah!

Honesty? from a right winger? that's absolutely astounding Keeper. I've got to commend you for that. It ought to be recognized and noted, , however; poor Sarah will need an encyclopedia implant b-4 she is going to win nationally. Unfortunately, for rightie tighties, she is just, uneducated, or un worldly, just doesn't know, the definition of naive !

That't probably the ultimate insult to a lefty !
I'll try to make up for my tremendous blunder.

But Sarah is STILL dumb as red dirt !

While attempting to write an insightful piece on the happenings of the Obama Octoberfest, Ms. Gates showed her true colors about how she feels about race with her digs on the "heavy, untrained green eyeshadow of a fourteen-year-old" and that the police officer is "not the only cop who has fudged a report."

In a situation like the one that happened, I would hope my neighbor would care enough to protect my property from theft or worse.

Profiling? Ms. Gates gave her assessment of the cop's family with her statement about the daughter and the father. White Trash!

As for Obama, he's just a speechmaker with no substance that the media created. But please don't look as this as a racial statement. So was John Edwards.

If Obama wants to tackle racism, maybe he should start at home and share a beer with his wife.

Police reports can be incomplete. The two big black males with back packs on the Gates porch have not been apprehended. It would not be surprising if they had sex toys and porno mags in their back packs.

"...It wouldn't be surprising if..." What?

Why don't you explain why that would not be surprising? Did you even think about this before you typed?

"productive" ?
what exactly was accomplished?
did Crowley promise to be more racially sensitive and did Gates promise to stop being hyper sensitive ?

@sonofloud

The thing that was accomplished is :
Everything that Crowley says is coming directly out of Obama's mouth !
Mr President can and will be persuasive and convinving.

What would you do if POTUS told you what exactly to say ?
And told you it was a matter of national security.
You know that if you cross him, you'll go away and no-one will ever hear of you again !

I'm not sure where the media got the idea that the so-called "beer summit" was designed to cure America of racism.

Perhaps it was just an opportunity for the two principals to get together and iron out some of their differences, using the White House as a carrot. And the media was busy trying to make it into something grander, only to shoot it down when it turned out to simply be two guys getting together to iron out some of their differences.
