Topless Coffee House Arson
In this economic slump, why did arsonists burn down a booming business? A state fire official confirmed that the fire that destroyed Vassalboro, Maine's topless coffee shop was caused by arson, CNN reports. Donald Crabtree, the shop's owner, is determined to rebuild. Crabtree and six others, including his two infant grandchildren, lived in the building but escaped from the fire unharmed.

More imposed morality, no doubt. Attempted murder yet.
Is this more handiwork of the American Taliban?
Yes. Obviously. Hooters is next.
What's more immoral? Looking at breasts with breakfast (breastfast?) or destruction of property and potentially killing people? How these people reconcile their beliefs is beyond me.
Which beliefs are those? I missed that in the article.
The arson probably had nothing to do with "morality" issues. More likely it was bored kids thinking it was funny or something. Imposing a logical motive is giving too much credit.
The republican right-wing terrorist are on a role.First they murder and now there burning people's businesses down.Who says terrorist live in the middle-east they live in the republican party.
This could have just as easily been militant feminist extremists or a fiercely devout Muslim or some Atheist that made a failed pass at a waiter or waitress, or an irreligious person that made a failed pass at a waiter or waitress or bored teenagers or one of those firefighters that start their own fires or somebody wanting to be a hero by starting the fire then 'saving' everybody or a business dispute or an insurance salesman drumming up business or could be one of the people living in the building. We don't know.
If the shoe fits wear it. The Democrats won the election so the feminists are happy, Hussein is his middle name so the Muslims are content, the Right Wing Conservatives have a boner for the end of the world and they are constantly agitated by talk radio, bet your bottom dollar some religious zealot did this.
Good grief. Not everything on the planet is political, sometimes it is just people who don't want that in their backyard or kids playing with matches. It could be a "protection" shakedown too.
Frankly I think a topless place like this is tacky and in poor taste, but that kind of mirrors the overreaction in your comments above.
this country needs more love then all the trouble we have in the world todayy please be friends to one other more you will find happiness
No doubt this is yet another example of right-wing extremist domestic terrorism. Looks like the DHS was right.
You might be right, but a topless coffee shop? When there are so many other richer targets around. I just don't get it. Maybe because I am not really offended by the idea of a topless coffee shop, but it doesn't seem to be symbolic of anything, and frankly I would expect at least few patrons to right-wingers. Sex appeals to all kinds.
What I really want to know is whether or not they served breakfast and if coffee was any good. That's the real measure of a coffee shop for me.
"What I really want to know is whether or not they served breakfast and if coffee was any good. That's the real measure of a coffee shop for me."
I though it was always cup size. (Sorry couldn't resist.)
Coffee in small cups is usually better. The bigger the cup the blander the coffee. Unless you're talking about the egg cups.
What a place to raise your kids and grandkids! I'm surprised this crowd is not screaming for the social workers to step in and investigate.
You would say that.
Too bad topless breakfasts are not the worst thing a child brought into the world now will have to deal with.
Squiiggy, you are absolutely right! Finally children being exposed to an establishment where there was no misplaced morality and then to be told that the place was burned down by some idiot that thinks exposure to the female breast is harmful.
A couple of years ago in Austin, Texas the local police threatened to crack down on breast exposure at a MARDI GRAS celebration. The local women (thousands) threatened a bare breast protest . (btw bare breasts are legal in public in Austin) The police backed down
I encourage the local women in Vasselboro to stage a bare breast protest to draw attention to this subversive effort by the religious or otherwise zealots that would attempt to step on women's rights. If a man can walk down the street bare breasted then women should share this right also!!
A protest of this nature would encourage these misguided fools not to burn down other establishments of this type or there could be a repeat of the barebreasted protests.
EtienneEtoile, I agree one hundred percent. In fact, I would also lobby to allow women to play tennis topless at my local courts, but right now they even forbid the men to play without shirts. Such repression, I swear!
I don't think the children were being raised IN the coffee house. It is customary to raise children in actual homes.
What, exactly, is there to "investigate?" I certainly agree that children should not drink coffee, but they are generally exposed to bare breasts soon after being born.
I dare say that the arsonists are regular church goers, sing there about peace and loving one' s fellow man, carry guns and vote Republican.
It could have just been some guy who wasn't breastfed as a baby and is feeling a little resentful. We won't know until the perp is caught.
Today topless, tomorrow bottomless? The arson is indeed unsettling and the culprits must be apprehended and tossed in the slammer with a maximum sentence. Most disconcerting is the possibility that other misguided malcontents will burn down the TV studio presents a weekly half-hour series this fall entitled "Naked Basketball." The former NBA players have two teams and wear only their sneakers. Everything hangs out and it's perfectly legal! It's in the works. So stay tuned.
Thank you.
