UConn's Shame
Does UConn’s success deserve an asterisk? A six-month investigation by Yahoo! Sports reveals that the University of Connecticut violated NCAA rules in the recruitment of former guard Nate Miles, who was provided with lodging, transportation, restaurant meals and representation by Josh Nochimson—a sports agent with ties to the university. While a UConn assistant coach has admitted knowledge of communication between Nochimson and Miles, a Yahoo investigation uncovered at least 1,565 phone calls and text messages between Miles and at least 5 different UConn coaches, including head coach Jim Calhoun. The incident reflects an alarming trend of agents recruiting players not from college, but for them.
