Beer Summit

White House Pub Opens at 6

HP Main - Obama Beer

Not the Rose Garden, the Beer Garden: Barack Obama, Skip Gates, and Cambridge police officer James Crowley will sit down Thursday at the White House picnic table for some brews and conversation. The picnic table appears to be a favorite site for White House reconciliation: Obama and Hillary Clinton were spotted there earlier this year. It’s located outside the Oval Office, near the first daughters’ swing set. Crowley's bringing his family. Obama will bring the beers.

The thing that I'm going to cringe when I see, is Obama kowtowing to a cop who, with malice, did violate the civil rights of Professor Gates.
Rewarding will only re-enforce the cops' behavior to get worse.
This is a bad move for Obama. I know that he's trying to avert a racial war, but he jumped off where he didn't belong, and contrary to earlier statements about researching the material before comment, I suggest to you that Obama didn't.
Watch those numders fall !

sparky13, how does Obama avert a race war by playing the race card at his will? Seems more likely that he does that to create division and divert attention away from his real agenda - expanding the government into more and more aspects of life in a formerly free country.

Whatever the two (sparky and north) of you are talking about makes no sense, but you both suggest that Obama is in the wrong. I, out of respect for the President, will refrain from continuing this insane discussion at this time, and will wait for a more appropriate venue, and it will come.

I have lost all respect for the white cop to agree to sit down with these two racists. He'll get a quick lesson in cover your ass PR in the next couple of news cycles once Gibbs et al are finished with him. See ya, know I wouldn't be ya.

@Ritarita

Been gone all day. I hope you come back to check this out.
My post makes perfect sense.
The cop violated the civil rights of this professor.
The cop lied on his official report.
The professor's behavior did not break the treashold for the charge to be filed.
You can't be so naive as to believe that the cops all over the country aren't going to get worse with their ego and testosterone problem, and you know what I'm refering to.
Obama made the invitation too soon, he should have waited for the facts to fully come out.
I know cops, my whole family is associated (in one way or another) with the law.,
It's US v THEM, Justice no, JUST-US !!!
Its all moot now, the meeting just happened
Catch you on the rebound

Fine. The President has to have this feelgood moment.
Yes. Racism is alive and well in the USA. (Ask any person of color). It is a very important issue to confront.
But right now, this week, this summer, the biggest chance to do something about the biggest priority we face at the moment since at least President Truman's time, is the fight over health insurance.
We need affordable, effective health insurance.
I'll trust that Obama is also fighting for this like bloody hell.

Prof Gates, for whatever reason played the race card first, then when we wouldn't shut up, the officer arrested him, which was an over reaction. But this was all brought about by the good prof with his chip and agenda to cry racisim when all the officer was trying to do was to do his job and protect the property of the owner. Was the officer legally justified in the arrest? Probably not. The charges were dropped. What is there to talk about at the Beer Summit?
Bottom line: cooperate with the police when they are working.

Obama doesn't have the time to support gay equality because he "has too much on his plate".
But he found the time to fight against gay equality:

Rep. Alcee Hastings has withdrawn an amendment that would have prevented the military from using money to carry out the provisions of its controversial Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy which prevents gays from serving in the military. He says he pulled the measure under pressure from the White House and colleagues.
"I would, however, like to note that it is most unfortunate that we are not addressing Don't Ask, Don't Tell at this time," Hastings said in announcing his decision. "We should not be appropriating funds to enable qualified service members to be booted out just because they are honest about whom they are."

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/nakedpolitics/2009/07/hastings-retreats-o n-dont-ask-dont-tell.html

Obama also found the time to interfere when one of his black, Harvard pals was feeling dissed.

Obama is a homophobic racist.

That was a pretty good post, until the last sentence. I agree that gay equality is a hot button that needs to be pushed, but when the far left and the far right merge the country is screwed.

Actually, Rep. Hastings said that he "was told" that the White House had a strategy to pull back DADT, and his ammendment would throw that strategy off.

Given the little tidbits people in the White House have been saying (when they say anything) about DADT, I think they may make the case that DADT is unconstitutional. That's just my theory, mind you.

Hastings' ammendment could be overturned later down the road. I think it would have been a good start, but next year another Rep. could come along and reinstate the money for those activities. There will have to be something very concrete and final to end DADT once and for all.

And it can't come soon enough.

Maybe the White House would like to share this so called strategy with the gay community?
We are more than a little interested.
Obama refuses to help and then actually blocks it when we do it ourselves....no more of his "fierce advocacy" please, we can't take it.

There are real issues,at stake.Everyone has the side to the story, with their own experiences. But it is fantastic to have a real human being for a President. A man that cares enough to say, lets's work it out. Lets' meet together the three of us,(and families and friends, and probably lawyers,)this is the US.),and hopefully everyone will be the better for it.!! Events like these bring, change, awareness, sensitivity, and each one gets to see and hear each others perceptiions. And we all are a better country and society for it.What good does it do to leave it an open wound, and creating more anger. and hatred. We have a caring Human being as a president and that is fantastic.Real Class!!A real leader, not just politics.

Obama's eating humble pie along with drinking his beer.

Obama apologized to Officer Crowley for calling him stupid before he knew all the facts. Obama initially supported Skippy Gates and his crazy claims that he was racially profiled and the Cambridge police are racists, but now Obama is silent about Skippy's claims.

This whole thing is a "photo-op" so Obama can be seen making nice with the white policeman.

Crowley will steal the show with his family in tow. A great PR move, and the kids will get to meet the President and see the White House. Meanwhile, Gates will probably still be mouthing off like someone stuck in a 60s time warp.

As a matter of fact, African Americans in the 60's didn't call the cops anything when they were sprayed with hoses and set on by dogs. Not a word, not one word.

Police can be racist, or assh*les, or in a lousy mood, or just doing their job.
Doesn't matter.
Overwhelmingly, they do what they want.
Colin Powell said, "Take it easy. Dont make things worse".

My point explained here:

http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/obama-gates-crowley-all-are-right

"Both Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jr. & Sgt. James Crowley are RIGHT in my opinion! I also fully agree that the whole situation was stupid and should never happen in that fashion. The blame however, is NOT with Gates or Crowley.
The problem is overly vague, over-used and abused, and unconstitutional Disorderly Conduct laws, as well as improper or inadequate training of officers. Under the present DC laws in America, even if you yell in an upset voice in your own home or on your own porch when DEFENDING your civil rights, the police can unbelievably state you are disorderly."

The left plays the race card everytime they turn around. They played it on Bill and Hillary for godssakes! That's a crutch that's running out of steam. Ninety eight percent of the time they're crying wolf and it's great to see we're starting to get a little push back.

Think again, ThinkAgain (sorry; that's two this week). Studies show that the bulk (roughly estimated at 73%) of situations of racial discrimination are not reported or raised. This is because they do not happen publicly or in high profile arenas. It's little things like disciplinary actions, performance appraisals, and (sometimes) overt incidences at work. These are usually settled quietly. Also, these occurances happen in the education arena as well, again, they are not normally reported.

There is also the deeply inbedded notion among black culture that the best way to handle any racial situation is to do exactly as you are told and keep your mouth shut about it (see Colin Powel's interview).

Listen dahlings, the President is persuasive, but he needs to grow a pair. All this birthin talk, his light foot promises to the gay community, and his bumble bee attitude toward the entire health legislation, has got me worried. He promised me things were going to change, but nothing will even crack the corporate hold on Washington DC until he starts kicking some butt. He could start with the Lap Dog Democrats, I mean the Blue Dogs, of course, pardon moi! And going after the meanie weenie Lobby dudes that seem to rule behind closed doors. Is it just greed going on or is Tierra in the slow lane. BTW, I believe the entire financial meltdown hysteria last fall that produced the billions bailout to Wall Street was the biggest ponzi scheme in history.

Wonder what the President would say about that over a beer?
