Woody vs. Mia

Might the skeletons in Woody Allen’s closet soon be on parade (again)? The New York Daily News reports that Woody Allen is fighting to keep his ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow and Hustler publisher Larry Flynt from testifying at his upcoming lawsuit against American Apparel, the clothing company he is suing for $10 million for using image on a billboard. Allen’s lawyers accused American Apparel of turning the trial into a “spectacle” by listing Farrow as a witness so it can bring up their 1992 custody battle. "It is clear that the unproven allegations from the custody dispute will be used in a most lurid manner," Allen’s lawyer wrote.

Woody might want to beat a strategic retreat at this point unless this is about promoting his next money-losing movie.

Woody Allen should have enjoyed his relative anonymity. He deserves whatever hell the media now dishes out to him. Sometimes keeping your pants zipped is the better part of valor.

Allen's worried about "lurid" testimony after he seduced a child he stood in the role of a parent as and then seduced? This is one sick weirdo. Lurid doesn't even begin to express the contempt he deserves.

It would be interesting to see what kinds of revelations might worry this man, but I fail to see what all this accomplishes other than getting him media attention that he desires but hardly deserves.

Issywise, you are 100% correct, and on top, the world accepted him.He should have been prosecuted for child rape.

No, the phrase that made me choke was :"It is clear that the unproven allegations from the custody dispute will be used in a most lurid manner." Unproven allegations? He married his stepdaughter! That proved his incestuous intentions right there! But, on the other hand, Hollywood loves him, so it must be okay. *bleck*

oh, and apparently Ms. Previn was 20 years old at the time but hey it's just so much more fun to twist the story into something more scandalous. Facts be damned!

Please.
He married the adopted sister of his biological son and his other adopted children. He never adopted her, but he did live in the household with her as a paternal figure. He crossed a line that is unacceptable in our society.

So the fact that Woody stood in the role of a parent to Soon Yi doesn't enter into your analysis of the situation? It seems obscene and predatory to us. Did the child not learn to trust and gain affection for the man when she was a child and he was wearing the cloak of a concerned adult responsible for her welfare?

Whose "bad" and "wrong" here? Who are you excusing and of what?

Are we "bad," "wrong," and "haters" to hold that people standing in the role of a parent should not stoop to screw their kids?

Woody and your values are disgusting. He'd pray on a child he was given access to as a parental trust and you excuse it. Eccch on you!

Sarastro3 Ya, don't disagree that some people are meant to be together but this was really a betrayal - He had nude pics of Soon Yi in his desk... he was with Mia...she found them. He should have told her about his attraction as soon as it happened, but he chose not to.

i never could figure out why stars keep their starstruck vigil for Sir Woody--is getting in one of his psychobabble movies that big a deal?
the guy's a creep---period---excuse me, a control freak creep---just ask his analyst whose done such a good job in the 40 year long sessions he/she has billed Sir Woody for---money is the root of all.....

As a longtime Woody fan (all the '80's movies and Match Point, which was brilliant), I don't personalize my relationship with celebrities I'll never meet, so his personal life is is no interest to me. But I do wonder what possible relevance Mia Farrow, with whom his relationship ended 16 years ago, could have to this current legal action.

Three points:

One, while you may not approve, Allen's relationship with his wife-to-be was in no way illegal.

Two, they are still married and together after many years. I think that speaks very loudly. The world should leave them alone.

Three, if there is an injured party, it's Ms Farrow, and it's her feelings that were injured. Everyone else should butt out.

In truth, both guitarmeggedon's and FourCorners' observations really summarize my ambivalence about this whole, sad, weird situation. If I could divide myself in two: "Detached Movie Fan" and "Feeling Human Being," I guess I could then salute Woody Allen's professional feats, and simultaneously vomit over his sleeping with and marrying the daughter that he adopted with his wife. But I can't. So what's left is my vacillating between delight in his film legacy and revulsion at his personal legacy. Truly a no-win for us onlookers, is it?
