    1. Prosecution Rests Sandusky Case

What more could be said? The prosecution rested its case Monday in the sex-abuse trial of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, with the judge saying that he will not move to dismiss the charges. Judge John Cleland said that he harbored doubts about the state’s case Monday, but said that he believes there is enough credible evidence against Sandusky for the case to go before a jury. The 68-year-old Nittany Lions legend is charged with 52 counts of sexual abuse against 10 boys over a 15-year period. Sandusky denies all charges. One teen, known as Victim 9, testified Thursday that Sandusky repeatedly forced him to have anal sex that resulted in bleeding. The teen testified that he “just dealt with it.”

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Russian President Vladimir Putin says that he and President Obama have found something to agree on when it comes to the war in Syria and resolving Iran's nuclear standoff. "From my point of view we have found many common points on this issue," Putin said after meeting with Obama at the G20 Summit on Monday. Putin said that he and Obama plan to continue talks and that “tensions” between the U.S. and Russia can “be worked out.”

Now that Greece is firmly remaining in the euro zone, leaders are back to struggling to find a solution to the continent’s economic woes. Germany believes the Greek elections supported the need for austerity. “The Greek government will and must naturally follow through on the commitments that were made. There can be no loosening of the reform steps,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said. Others advocate a more moderate approach. There are also fears that the Greek election results have prevented a lasting solution. One analyst said, “The risk is that this benign outcome could inhibit a bolder solution at the upcoming E.U. summit.”

An autopsy was performed on Rodney King’s body on Monday as part of the investigation into his death. The results will not be made public until medical examiners have results from a toxicology test and tissue studies, which may take up to eight weeks, officials said. Police have found no evidence of foul play and are investigating King’s death as an accidental drowning. A police spokesman said, "At the time the detectives arrived on scene and responding officers arrived, there was nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing to indicate to us that alcohol or drug use had been a factor."

    5. John McCain: Boxing ‘Corrupt’

Sen. John McCain has proposed new legislation that would create a United States Boxing Commission. McCain claimed that boxing is currently “plagued” by “fraud, corruption, and ineffective regulation,” and pointed out that “professional boxing remains the only major sport in the United States that does not have a strong, centralized association, league, or other regulatory body to establish and enforce uniform rules and practices.” The move was partially spurred by a recent boxing decision that saw champion Manny Pacquiao lose in a controversial ruling. The new commission would have the power to license boxers, managers, and boxing organizations, appoint judges and referees, and implement new safety standards. McCain has proposed similar legislation before.

    7. Zimmerman Jailhouse Calls Released

Prosecutors released recordings of jailhouse calls Monday made between George Zimmerman and his wife in which prosecutors say they discuss their family’s finances. Among the calls is one in which Zimmerman instructs his wife to buy and wear a bulletproof vest. Shellie Zimmerman was arrested and released on $1,000 bond last week for allegedly perjuring herself while testifying on her family’s financial situation in April. Also last week, prosecutors said in court documents that the 25-year-old woman had called her husband and discussed how much money the couple had before an April 20 hearing at which she essentially said that the family was penniless. Prosecutors say that the calls of which recordings have been released were in a code that allowed the couple to discuss the movement of substantial funds between among family bank accounts. The Orlando Sentinel released a transcript of one of the calls.

Shouldn’t this be a story of happily ever after? Well, at least one part is. Brett McGurk, the nominee for U.S. ambassador to Iraq withdrew his name from the running Monday as opposition mounted in the Senate. Emails between McGurk and Wall Street Journal reporter Gina Chon, who was covering him in 2008 while they were both stationed in Baghdad, revealed a flirty and somewhat scandalous line of conversation between the two. While McGurk and Chon eventually did get married (that’s the happily-ever-after part), Republicans in the Senate argued that the emails showed “unprofessional conduct” that “will affect the nominee’s credibility in the country where he has been nominated to serve.” Chon resigned from her Journal job last week.

The former pitcher was charged with perjury, making false statements, and obstructing Congress during a sworn deposition in 2008. One of the top pitchers in baseball hisotry, Clemens testified that he never used steroids. If he had been found guilty on all counts, Clemens faced a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine.

Get ready to bark and pump your fists like it’s 1991: comedian Arsenio Hall is returning to late-night TV with a new talk show next fall. More than 20 years after his self-titled show debuted and attracted a younger audience to late-night TV, Hall is partnering with CBS Distribution and Tribune Company to try and steal back the spotlight from former competitors Jay Leno and David Letterman. His show peaked in 1992, when he booked then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton to play “Heartbreak Hotel” on the saxophone, and went off the air in 1994. But at 56, Hall may still have what it takes, having recently been crowned winner of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice. His new show will be broadcast in roughly half the homes in the U.S.

There’s an Oedipus joke in here somewhere. Woody Allen's estranged son, Ronan Farrow, reminded the world of his dad's ick factor on Sunday with a scintillating Twitter burn. "Happy father's day–or as they call it in my family, happy brother-in-law's day," the comedian’s estranged son tweeted, according to TMZ. The 24-year-old progeny of Woody Allen and Mia Farrow reportedly stopped speaking to his comedian father in 1992, when it was discovered that Allen was pursuing a romance with his then-stepdaughter, Soon-Yi Previn. Mother Mia Farrow retweeted the message, adding a resounding "BOOM.” Allen began dating Farrow in 1980, when Previn was 10 years old.

The Miami-based talk-show host, often referred to as “the Hispanic Oprah,” has never made a public endorsement in a presidential race, but she decided that since Hispanics “may very well decide the next election,” she had an obligation to say something. “I will do everything I can from now until November to ensure that President Obama is reelected; there's simply too much at stake,” Saralegui said in a statement. “President Obama, I was very fortunate to live the American Dream, and I know that only you will make it possible for millions more to do the same. You've had our back, and now, with the utmost respect and admiration, I have yours.”

Jack Osbourne, the son of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, has said he’s been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The diagnosis came after he began losing vision in his right eye, the 26-year-old revealed in an interview with Britain’s Hello! magazine. “I was just angry and frustrated and kept thinking, ‘Why now?’” Osbourne said of the diagnosis, which came two weeks after his first child, daughter Pearl Clementine, was born. “I got really sad for about two days, and after that I realized being angry and upset is not going to do anything at this point—if anything it’s only going to make it worse,” he said. There is no known cure for multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that afflicts the nervous system.

Representatives from Russia, China, Britain, France, Germany, and the United States will participate in the talks, which will pick up where negotiations left off at the last meeting in April. “If Iran remains unwilling to take the opportunities these talks present, it will face continuing and intensified pressure and isolation,” one Western official told Reuters. While the United States has urged further sanctions against the Islamic Republic, Russia and China want to ease off on the country. Life at a New Jersey halfway house was hellish by many accounts. A 10-month investigation by The New York Times of the Albert M. “Bo” Robinson Assessment and Treatment Center revealed a pattern of abuse. Workers at the 900-bed correctional facility said inmates regularly ask to be transferred to prison, where they say they would be better taken care of. Records revealed that during some tests for drugs at the halfway house, more than 70 percent of inmates tested positive. In interviews, a senior vice president at the private company that runs Bo Robinson said the complaints were isolated. New Jersey has used privatized halfway houses as a way to reduce the costs associated with keeping inmates in prisons.

The three astronauts, including China’s first female crew member, are on a 13-day milestone mission for China’s program as the country works toward its ambition of building a full-fledged permanent space station. While the United States and Russia are the world’s most established extraterrestrial superpowers, both have space programs in transitional periods: NASA is working hand in hand with the private sector to build a new series of spacecraft, and Russia has for the most part abandoned manned space missions. China has also expressed interest in sending a manned mission to the moon in the next two decades.

Investors in Europe sighed and then got back to business after a crucial Greek vote Sunday. Markets showed an early advance Monday, but soon receded as Spanish bond yields topped 7 percent and anxiety over the future of the euro zone continued unabated. “Any relief following the Greek election results should be brief,” Ciaran O’Hagan, Société Générale SA’s head of interest-rate strategy, told reporters. “At best, we are facing a muddle-through scenario in Greece. The focus now returns to Spain, where the latest developments continue to trouble us.” Spain presents the latest front in the fight for the 17-nation common currency and recently became the fourth nation to ask for a bank bailout. American stock futures slid Monday morning as Spain's economic troubles continued to become more apparent, and investors placed a vote of little confidence in the country's ability to pay off its debt.

A Russian Navy official told the Interfax news service that the two vessels would be heading to the naval base at Tartus, a Syrian port, and would be carrying additional troops. Russia’s Defense Ministry has not commented on the troop movements, but the country has stood by Syria as violence has spiraled out of control in the country. Fourteen thousand people have died since a popular uprising began against iron-fisted dictator Bashar al-Assad’s rule began more than 15 months ago, according to opposition groups.

Other vehicles under consideration by the government agency include the 2008 Highlander Hybrid SUV and the RAV4 SUV. One hundred sixty-one fires have been caused by power-window switches that overheated, according to the administration, but no recall has been issued so far.
