    1. Pig Squeals Deafen Farm Worker

This time, the pig farm jokes won’t be about the smell. A French judge has ordered a pig farm to pay damages to a worker who was partially deafened by the incessant squeals of the pigs. Serge Personeni worked at the farm from 2001 to 2008 and was responsible for caring for 4,000 pigs. The judge, in the town of Lons-le-Saunier near the border with Switzerland, said the farm made an “inexcusable error” by failing to protect Personeni from the hazard to his hearing. The amount they have to pay will be determined later after he is seen by a doctor.

    2. Guy Saved From 20-Foot Chimney

Rescuers were called into a home in Tacoma, Wash., to free a 24-year-old man who somehow managed to get stuck in a 20-foot-long chimney. And no one understands why. "We never got a definitive answer," Joe Meinecke, public information officer of the Tacoma Fire Department, told "The primary issue was life safety so that's what we were focused on." After a team of 20 officials carefully removed bricks from the chimney one at a time, the man was reached unharmed.

    3. Girl Punished for Twerking at School

Kids these days. A mom forced her 11-year-old daughter to wear a sign at a busy intersection stating that she has disrespected her parents after twerking at a school function. "I want her to realize that she is just a child and that she can't do that," the mother told a broadcaster. The school didn't take action for what the mom is calling a "ridiculous" action, so she took matter into her own hands. That's what happens when you listen to Miley.

    4. World's Ugliest Animal Is Kind of Cute

Look at that face! The Ugly Animal Preservation Society named this glob of goo—the blobfish—the world's ugliest animal. The society aims to draw awareness to at-risk animals who wouldn't normally receive attention because of their extreme unattractiveness. Simon Watt of the society stated that "indeed this is an ugly hideous thing. It looks sad and so it should, because it's suffering from severe problems." But when you look closely, it's actually really sweet!

    6. Drunk American Feels Bad After Stealing Cat

Drunken nights aren't what they used to be. An American posted a Craigslist ad the morning after "accidentally stealing" a cat. The post says that the person picked up the animal on the way home, thinking that it was a stray, but discovered the cat's collar with its name on in the following morning. The ad, which describes the cat as "frisky" and with "very sleepy eyes," closes with: "If Django belongs to you I would like to give him back… And sorry for stealing him." Almost makes up for it.

    8. Batman, Captain America Rescue Cat

Close enough to the real thing. Two men dressed as Batman and Captain America saved a cat who was trapped inside a burning house in West Virginia. To be fair, they were already entertaining children at an event where the house was when smoke was noticed. They kicked in the front door and threw a rock at the window to let the smoke out. One of the men grabbed the cat from the house, ran outside, and gave it mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

  7. SIZE MATTERS Smaller Testes, Better Father?

    9. Smaller Testes, Better Father?

It takes balls to be a good dad—but a big pair may not work in the child's favor. A study involving 70 fathers found the size of a man’s testicles is indicative of his commitment to child-rearing, and that men with small ones are more likely to display good parenting skills. Researchers say this boils down to biology: men with larger testes are more inclined to spread their seed (read: abandon their home lives). But before you get out the scale and measuring tape, consider this: “It could be that when men become more involved as caregivers, their testes shrink,” said the study author. “Environmental influences can change biology.”

    10. Stoli: We’re Not Russian

Blindsided by a global gay-rights protest of “Russian” vodka in the wake of the country’s anti-gay law, the popular brand Stolichnaya is pushing back with an unexpected strategy: denying its provenance. Stoli advertised itself as Russian until 2010, even though it has always been made in Latvia, and the brand’s owner is considered an outlaw by the Russian government. It is now filtered and bottled in Latvia, and its ingredients come from across Europe. “I always thought it was Russian,” said Kaspars Zalitis, a Latvian gay-rights activist. The boycott was promoted in the U.S. by prominent gay Americans like sex columnist Dan Savage. Gay activist Stuart Milk said American boycotters thought Stoli was an “easy target,” but that the boycott was “misguided.”
