The New York Yankees, already owners of the league's highest payroll, are spending like there's no tomorrow, signing free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira to a $180 million eight-year contract. The Yankees already made waves this off-season by signing pitchers C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett to top dollar contracts, putting their spending this offseason at a mind-blowing $420 million.
