Michael Douglas: 'I’ve Got [Cancer] Beat'

Last year, the public was shocked to learn that actor Michael Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer. Now, thankfully, it appears that he is recovering: In his first interview since undergoing treatment, Douglas tells Matt Lauer on tomorrow’s Today Show that “The tumor is gone,” and, “I’ve got [cancer] beat." When Douglas mentioned how he’s excited about his starring role in director Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming film, Liberace, Lauer asked, “So you’ve allowed yourself to look that far down the road?” and Douglas replied, “Yeah, oh, absolutely. I think the odds are with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer that I’ve got it beat.” A portion of Lauer’s interview will appear on tomorrow’s Today, while the entire sit-down interview will appear on Dateline NBC on Sunday, January 23.
