The Hammer is going to the slammer: Former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has been given three years in prison for sending corporate cash to Texas candidates in 2002. DeLay was convicted in November of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The judge also ordered DeLay to prison for five additional years on the money-laundering charges, but allowed those charges to be paid for with 10 years of probation instead. DeLay was once one of the most powerful men in politics, rising to the No 2. post in the U.S. House. He had faced a possible life sentence from the charges.
