Women Tortured in Egypt

Amnesty International is calling on Egyptian authorities to investigate torture allegations from at least 18 female protesters who were arrested in Tahrir square on March 9. Protesters held in military detention have told Amnesty International that they were forced to undergo "virginity tests" by a man in a white coat, the results of which made them subject to prostitution charges. They were also allegedly beaten, given electric shocks, and forced to undergo strip searches by female prison guards while male soldiers watched and took photographs.
