Here's the good news: Consumer spending and income both increased this month. The bad news: most of that money went toward rising energy prices. The Commerce Department announced Friday that consumer spending last month rose 0.6 percent, 0.2 percent when adjusted for inflation. It's the ninth consecutive month spending has increased. After-tax incomes also rose, though a slight 0.1 percent.
