According to White House National Security Advisor Thomas E Donilon, there is no evidence that Pakistan knew about the hideout of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, despite the fact that the Abbottabad compound was located 35 miles from the country’s capital, and about 1,000 yards from a Pakistani military academy. “As I sit here with you, I don’t have any information that would indicate foreknowledge by the political military or intelligence leadership in Pakistan,” Donilon said on ABC’s This Week with Christiane Amanpour, one of four television news shows he visited on Sunday. He also noted on CNN, “more terrorists and extremists have been captured or killed in Pakistan’s soil than any other place in the world.” He then called on Pakistan to grant the U.S. access to Osama bin Laden’s three widows for questioning, the women are currently being held in Pakistani custody, and that the Obama administration is still analyzing the treasure trove of information discovered in bin Laden’s compound that Donilon described as “equivalent to a small college library.”
