Somali intelligence have revealed that Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, a suspected al-Qaeda leader and man responsible for the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings, was carrying "very specific" plans to bomb Western countries when he who was shot dead by Somali soldiers last week. The soldiers found a trove of information in his SUV, including weapons, mobile phones, video cameras, computers, $40,000 in cash, and documents linked to al-Qaeda. "The documents we got from him are about plans not only in Somalia but throughout the world," said a Somali intelligence official. "I think we’ve saved a lot of lives.” Mohammed reportedly trained at al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan in the late '80s and early '90s. Like Osama bin Laden, he was a highly wanted figure and terrorist mastermind who used 18 different names and carried multiple passports.
