    Thousands Flee N. Dakota Flood

    A rapidly rising river has forced North Dakota authorities to order the evacuation of 12,000 people. The Souris River, which flows directly through the city of Minot, is expected to rise to record levels—not seen since 1881—due to heavy rains and releases from upriver. “We’re going to become a pool,” Minot’s mayor Curt Zimbelman said. “I have some real concerns.” The evacuations make up almost a third of the city; waters are expected to peak as early as Wednesday night.
