Sgt. James Thomas Hackemer, 29, died Friday after falling from the Ride of Steel roller coaster at the Darien Lake Theme Park Resort in upstate New York. Hackemer had lost all of his left leg and much of his right one after being injured in Iraq. At least one of the park’s rides, the Predator, bars people without legs from riding it. It is not clear if any park employees tried to prevent Hackemer from going on the Ride of Steel.
