Gaza-Bound Ship Sails from Greece

After weeks of ramping up, activists are sailing to Gaza on a yacht as part of the Freedom Flotilla, a protest the Israeli blockade of the area. The yacht, Dignite-Al Karama, left Corsica on June 25 and it was originally supposed to be joined by eight other boats, which were held up in Greek ports. After stopping in several ports in Greece, the Karama is now sailing towards Gaza. Participants plan to reach Gaza or carry out a symbolic protest against the blockade. Three of the participants attempted the same sailing last year, but were detained in a raid by the Israeli Defense Force that also killed nine activists. Journalists from Al Jazeera and the Israeli newspaper Haaretz are also aboard.
