NYT Names David Leonhardt as D.C. Bureau Chief

Economics writer David Leonhardt will be the New York Times's new Washington bureau chief. The promotion comes as part of a reshuffling following Jill Abramson's appointment as executive editor in June. Leonhardt is a staff writer at The New York Times Magazine and writes the paper's Economic Scene column. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his commentary earlier this year. In an internal announcement, Abramson called Leonhardt “one of our finest writers and most elegant thinkers” and praised his “keen understanding [of] how Washington works and the nexus of politics and economic policy.”
