Nafissatou Diallo, the hotel maid who has accused Dominique Strauss-Kahn of attempted rape, will file a civil suit if prosecutors do not press criminal charges. The decision follows the Manhattan district attorney office's announcement that they doubt the credibility of Diallo's allegations because of false statements on her asylum application and a taped telephone conversation. The hotel maid made her first public appearance Thursday, speaking of the stress and pain the case has caused her family. "We cry everyday," she said. "A lot of things people say about me are not true." Diallo's lawyer Kenneth Thompson stood by her side, telling the news conference, "What she wants is justice and if the prosecutors are not going to bring this case to trial then we have to look for justice and what I look forward to is putting this case before a jury."
