Oklahoma Tower Man Brought Down

A Tulsa man who climbed up a communications tower finally came down Tuesday night, ending a six-day standoff with police that had captivated the city. The man, William Boyd Sturdivant II, climbed the tower outside the Clear Channel Communications building around 11 a.m. Thursday, police said. On Tuesday night, after 128 hours on the tower, Sturdivant climbed a lift attached to a Tulsa Fire Department truck and was taken via ambulance to the hospital for medical attention. He refused any rescue attempts and would not come down. Sturdivant, 25, has a history of mental illness and has a criminal record that includes convictions for second-degree burglary and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was released from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections in April.
