Soldiers loyal to fallen Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi aren't going down without a fight. When fighters for the National Transitional Council tried to enter Bani Walid after the deadline to surrender passed, they were met with stronger resistance than anticipated. “It was as if Gaddafi himself was still inside," said one fighter. A council spokesman said fighters were inside the city, exchanging fire with snipers. Bani Walid is the gateway to the Sahara, where Gaddafi and his remaining followers are believed to have fled. The city has many men enlisted in Gaddafi's most loyal Army units, and NATO strikes may have left residents unwilling to surrender to the rebels.
