Iran Produces First Nuclear Fuel Rod

Iranian scientist announced Sunday that they had produced the country’s first-ever nuclear fuel rod, another step forward in Tehran’s burgeoning nuclear program—and one that came as a surprise to the West. Tehran said they are forced to make their nuclear weapons themselves, since sanctions prevent them from buying them on the market. A nuclear fuel rod, which are tubes containing pellets of enriched uranium that provide fuel for nuclear reactors, and it’s a key step in producing nuclear fuel. The news about the fuel rod came just one day after Iranian officials claimed they had fired medium-range missile to avoid detection in the Strait of Hormuz.
