The Alabama Crimson Tide took the Bowl Championship Series national title after shutting down the Louisiana State Tigers 21–0 at the Superdome. Alabama's defense—which has been stellar all year, allowing an average of just 8.8 points per game during the regular season—held LSU to five first downs and 92 yards of offense. Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw was chosen as the game’s defensive Most Valuable Player, and quarterback A. J. McCarron, who completed 23 of 34 passes for 233 yards, was the offensive MVP.
