The American system of voter registration needs a makeover, a new survey from Pew Center on the States reveals today. One in eight voter registrations is either invalid or noticeably inaccurate, and the list of active voters includes mor than 1.8 million dead people. Not only that, 2.75 million are actively registered to vote in more than one state. The outdated paper-based registration system is presumably responsible for all of these errors which "waste taxpayer dollars, undermine voter confidence, and fuel partisan disputes over the integrity of our elections," according to the Pew report. Voter identification laws have popped up in several states in the past year, though the report does not point to voter fraud as a real problem, such rampant inaccurances could make elections more susceptible to fraud.
