Winfrey makes no apologies for spending millions on an elite school for underpriviledged South Africa girls but is also looking for ways to make her money stretch further to help more struggling Africans. Oprah Winfrey is all done with a midtown-Manhattan penthouse. The penthouse, put on the market for $7.9 million, was purchased in 2008 and rumored to have been for Winfrey's BFF Gayle King. The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom apartment is in the swanky Place 57 building on 57th Street and Third Avenue. The 2,350-square-foot penthouse has sweeping skyscraper views accentuated by wall-to-ceiling windows. The place is said to have been purchased for $7.1 million. Will Winfrey now be homeless? Not exactly. The media mogul has a duplex in downtown Chicago and a plantation in Hawaii as well as other residences in Montecito, Calif., Douglasville, Ga., Franklin, Tenn., and Elmwood Park, Ill.
