Top Marine General Undergoes Back Surgery

Gen. Jim Amos, the Marine Corps’s top general, underwent back surgery on Wednesday. Citing privacy concerns, a spokesman for the Marine Corps declined to give more details but said Amos is recovering well. The 65-year-old commandant had complained of sciatic-nerve pain in early February. He is expected to return to the Pentagon soon to resume his duties, but Marine Corps officials couldn’t give an exact date.
