Former Ohio governor Ted Strickland, an Obama campaign co-chair, once considered Mitt Romney to be the most rational in a wacky GOP presidential field. Now he thinks the former Massachusetts governor is “presenting himself as almost silly.” He explained to Politico, “I think he is viewed correctly as a man lacking in principle and conviction and who so wants to be president that he’s willing to say anything in order to win. That’s a narrative that has developed over time. He keeps adding to it, with his rather strange pronouncements.” Strickland ultimately sees Obama winning Ohio in the general election, because of both his qualifications and the fact that “the competition is so weak and extreme, that I just don’t think Ohioans will embrace either Romney or Santorum in the end.”
