Republican Presidential hopefuls Rick Santorum, left, and Mitt Romney are neck and neck in recent polling.

If Mitt Romney thought he had Illinois in the bag in his long march to a possible GOP presidential nomination, then he has some work to do. A new Chicago Tribune/WGN-TV poll shows him with only a slight lead ahead of Rick Santorum. Romney has a 35 percent–to–31 percent edge, but that’s within the poll’s 4-percentage-point margin of error, making it a virtual tie. Newt Gingrich is at 12 percent, and Ron Paul has 7 percent support. Illinois holds its primary March 20.
