Republican Senate hopeful Heather Wilson thinks it's already enough that federal civil rights laws ban discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability and religion. Do we really need to spend more tax dollars prohibiting gay kids from getting bullied? No, she argues. Parents need to teach their kids to be tolerant and to have a thick skin because teasing is inevitable if you're different. She condemned Sen. Al Franken's anti-LGBT bullying legislation, saying it "criminalizes" teasing. The legislation, however, does not "criminalize" anything. Rather, it aims to prevent discrimination by requiring schools to respond to instances of harassment.
