The San Diego medical examiner declared Thursday that former NFL superstar Junior Seau committed suicide after shooting himself in the chest Wednesday morning. There was no immediate evidence that Seau suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a disease brought on by multiple concussions. Many of Seau’s family and friends spoke out about his hard-hitting NFL career, in which the linebacker led the San Diego Chargers to the Super Bowl in 1995. Toxicology results that would offer more complete results on the 43-year-old’s death could take weeks to complete. Seau’s family is said to be deciding whether to allow his brain to be studied on the long-term effects of concussions.
